When I was young, my parents and I {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(move) to New York from China. Although we now live in the US, we follow the customs and {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (tradition) of China. I have learned to speak several languages, English {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (include). I eat all kinds of foods and celebrate different holidays {#blank#}4{#/blank#} have something to do with culture.

    However, there {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(be) many disadvantages of being part of two cultures. Sometimes, speaking a language at home {#blank#}6{#/blank#} speaking another language in school can get confusing. Sometimes, I have trouble {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (express) my thoughts in English because they don't understand me well. Sometimes, my culture does make me feel far away from others because I feel too {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (difference).

    I am closer to the culture of China than that of the US. I don't listen to English music as {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(frequent) as I listen to Chinese music. Therefore, I feel very far away {#blank#}10{#/blank#} my friends when I don't know what song they talking about.

    Many English language learners believe that the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (great) difficulty with listening comprehension (理解) is that the listener cannot control how quickly a speaker speaks. They feel that what the speaker says disappears {#blank#}2{#/blank#} they can follow. This frequently means that students {#blank#}3{#/blank#} are learning to listen cannot keep up. They are so busy working out the meaning{#blank#}4{#/blank#} one part of what they hear that they miss the next part. Or they {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(simple) ignore a whole section because they fail to catch it quickly enough. Another difficulty is that the listener is not always in a position to get the speaker to repeat what has been said. And, of course, repeats cannot{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (ask) for when listening to the radio or watching TV.

    Besides,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (choose) of vocabulary is in the hands of the speaker, not the listener. Very often, for people listening to a foreign language, an unknown word can be like a suddenly {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (drop) stone making them stop and think about the meaning of the word,{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (cause) them to miss the next part of the speech. In listening, it really is a case of “He who{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (stop) to work out the meaning is lost.”

Earthquakes almost never kill people{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(direct). Instead, many deaths and injuries in earthquakes result from {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(fall) objects and the collapse（倒塌）of buildings, bridges, and other structures. Fire caused from broken gas or power lines is another major danger during{#blank#}9{#/blank#}quake. Spills（溢出）of {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(harm) chemicals are also a concern during an earthquake.

    Two new satellites of the BeiDou Navigation (导航) Satellite System (BDS){#blank#}1{#/blank#}(send) into space from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan Province on November 19, 2018.

    The satellites entered the orbit{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(safe) more than three hours later and will work with 17 other BDS-3 satellites already in space. They are also the 42^nd and 43^rd{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(member) of the BDS satellite family. China launched these satellites with{#blank#}4{#/blank#}aim of providing navigation services for countries and regions{#blank#}5{#/blank#}participate in the Belt and Road Initiative(倡议) by the end of 2018. This is a key step for BDS developing{#blank#}6{#/blank#}a Chinese experimental system to a regional and then a{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(globe) navigation system. The positioning{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(accurate) of the BDS-3 system has been improved to 5 meters.{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(name) after the Chinese term for the Plough(北斗七星), the BeiDou system has been serving China for 18 years. The system is expected {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(provide) first-class services around the globe by the end of 2020.
