Gasoline (汽油) prices are getting higher and higher. The prices make it hard for drivers to afford the fuel. One group held a special event to display（展示）new kinds of cars .The new cars are different and they can run on many different kinds of fuels.

Some of these cars are called hybrids(混合动力). They can run on different kinds of fuels. One kind of them runs on a special fuel cell which is filled with a gas called hydrogen.

      The fuel cell cars are also better in another way. They give off no emissions（排放物）. They are very clean, and don't give off bad fumes when they are running.

One man who makes fuel cell cars is excited about the hydrogen fuel cell technology. He says we will never run out of the sources of the fuel, but we may run out of the oil. Once we use oil up, it will take millions of years for more oil to form. Since gasoline is made from oil, that could be a problem for companies that make traditional cars, and for drives. However, it won't be a problem for cars that run on fuel cells.

    No one knows when the first kite was made. The first record of a kite was more than 2,000 years ago in China. Han Xin, the leader of an army, wanted to bring down a king. He decided to dig a tunnel(隧道) into the king's palace. He flew a kite over the wall of the palace to make sure the length(长度) of its string(线). In this way, he could determine how long the tunnel should be. His men in the tunnel took the kite string with them. When they reached the end of the string, they started to dig up.

    Kites have been flown in Japan for hundreds of years. In the 1700s, kites were flown in autumn to give thanks for a good harvest. They were also flown to send good wishes to couples who had their first son. Today in Japan, kites are often flown as part of a celebration, such as the beginning of a new year. And kite festivals are held each year in many parts of the country.

    Kites have been used for scientific purposes in the Western world. In 1752, Benjamin Franklin tied a key to a kite and flew it in a storm to find out that lightening was a form of electricity. In the 1890s, Lawrence Hargrave invented box kites to test ideas about flight. From 1898 until 1933, the United States Weather Bureau (气象局) used box kites to collect weather data. The Wright brothers also experimented (试验) with kites. What they learnt helped them make the first airplane flight in 1903.

    Garbage sorting is a big problem worldwide. In recent years, some Chinese cities have been working hard on it.

    Shanghai has worked with Alipay to create a "green account (账户)" service for its residents (居民). Account holders get points by correctly sorting their garbage. Through the Alipay app, they can exchange the points for milk, phone cards and other products. The city is asking all of its residents to sort their garbage into four groups: wet, recyclable (可回收的), harmful and dry.

    Wet waste is also known as household waste. "They are things you don't want but that pigs can eat," Guangzhou Daily explained.

    Paper, metal (金属), glass and other things that can be reused are recyclable waste.

    Harmful waste includes things like medicine, batteries and fluorescent bulbs (荧光灯泡).

    Finally, any waste that's not wet, recyclable or harmful will go in the "dry waste" bin.

    Many other Chinese cities are also using this method to sort their garbage. For example, Shenzhen has been sorting its garbage into the same four groups since 2012. Students there also receive waste-sorting guidebooks that they must study.

    China is improving its waste-sorting efforts. There is still a long way to go. But it's never too late to learn how to sort your trash properly and protect the environment.

    If you don't sort your garbage, all of it will go to a landfill (垃圾填埋场) and be buried together. These landfills can take up large areas of ground that could have been used for planting trees. The electronic waste you throw away, such as batteries, can pollute the soil and water. Other pieces of garbage, like the metal part of a pen, can be used to make other things if they are properly recycled.

Driving an electric car is good for the environment(环境). But is that true?
