It used to be that people would drink coffee or tea in the morning to pick them up and get them going for the day. Then cola drinks hit the market. With lots of caffeine and sugar, these drinks soon became the pick-me-up of choice for many adults and teenagers. Now drink companies are putting out so-called "energy drinks." These drinks have the specific aim of giving tired customers more energy.

One example of a popular energy drink is Red Bull. The company that puts out this drink has reported that Red Bull is not a thirst quencher (解渴饮料). Instead, the drink is meant to revitalize(使恢复生机) a tired customer's body and mind. In order to do this, the makers of Red Bull, and other energy drinks, typically add vitamins and certain chemicals to their drinks. The added chemicals are like chemicals that the body naturally produces for energy. The vitamins, chemicals, caffeine, and sugar found in these drinks all seem to give a person energy.

Health experts are not so sure, though. For one thing, there is not enough evidence(证据) to show that all of the vitamins added to energy drinks actually raise a person's energy level. Another problem is that there are so many things in the drinks. Nobody knows for sure how all of the ingredients in energy drinks work together.

Dr. Brent Bauer cautions (告诚) people about believing all the claims (申明) energy drinks make. He says, "It may be true if you put these twelve things together, you will get a good result." However Dr. Bauer adds the mix of ingredients could also have a negative impact (负面影响) on the body "We just don't know at this point," he says.

If you're hungry, drawing a picture of a hamburger will not make you feel full. However, thanks to a new product from a Japanese printing company, you can eat the paper that you draw on!

Moeka Hoda and Kanako Murakami work for this printing company. Not long after the two had joined the company, they took part in a project. They were asked to find a problem that people always meet with and then try to solve it.

Hoda and Murakami searched the Internet for ideas. One complaint (抱怨) caught their eye. "We're not allowed to eat anything during class," wrote one student. "Whenever I get hungry, my stomach makes a big noise!"

To help people with the same problem, Hoda and Murakami made a special set of notepads and pens. They used paper made from potato starch (淀粉), oil and water. The pen's ink was made from water, citric acid (柠檬酸) and coloring.

The two young men posted a video of their products on the Internet. To their surprise, many people liked it. Soon, the company started selling these notepads and pens. Within three weeks, more than 500 sets were sold. Hundreds of customers have probably already eaten these!

According to Chinese history, sky lanterns were first used by Zhuge Kongming. He sent them out to ask for help when in trouble. Today, sky lanterns are used at festivals and other{#blank#}1{#/blank#}. They are made of bamboo and covered with paper. When the lanterns are {#blank#}2{#/blank#}, they slowly rise into the air like small hot—air balloons for all to see. They are {#blank#}3{#/blank#}as bright symbols of happiness and good wishes. 

Paper cutting has been around for over 1,500 years. Paper cutting {#blank#}4{#/blank#}very easy but it can be difficult to do. The paper, usually red, is folded before it is cut with scissors. The most common pictures are flowers, animals, and things about {#blank#}5{#/blank#}history. During the Spring Festival, they are put on windows, doors and walls as symbols of wishes for good luck and a happy new year. 

Chinese clay art is famous because the clay pieces are so small but they look very 61. {#blank#}6{#/blank#}. The pieces are usually cute children or lively {#blank#}7{#/blank#}from a Chinese fairy tale or historical story. The pieces are{#blank#}8{#/blank#} shaped by hand from a very special kind of clay and then allowed to air-dry. After drying, they are fired at a very high heat. {#blank#}9{#/blank#}are then polished and painted. It takes several weeks to complete everything. These small pieces of clay art show the love that all Chinese people have for life and {#blank#}10{#/blank#}

There are some very good inventions which, for one reason or another, don't become popular. These inventions should be better known, even though I think that some of them are crazy. Let's have a look at some of these inventions and see if you agree that they should be more successful. 

The Australians had a great idea to stop people from drinking and driving. The idea was that if a driver wanted to start the car, she or he would have to blow into a bag first. If there was too much alcohol(酒精) in their breath, the car wouldn't start. It sounded like a great idea to me, but people said that they might need to drive the car in an emergency even if they had drunk too much alcohol. Another idea I liked was an invention by a scientist who thought his children watched too much TV. He linked the TV to an exercise bike so that the electricity to power the TV was generated(产出) by the bike. If the children wanted to watch a lot of TV, they had to pedal(踩踏板) very hard. I found another invention on the Internet which was intended (倾向于) to encourage good habits. Believe it or not, this invention was an ashtray(烟灰缸) which spoke to you when you lit a cigarette! The "voice" of the ashtray was activated (启动) by the heat from the cigarette and reminded you how dangerous it is to smoke. 

One of the strangest inventions I have come across is a bicycle which can cross rivers! The idea was that when you came to a river, you could inflate a huge plastic ball all around the bike. You would then get into the ball which would float on the river while you pedaled the bike inside the ball! Why not use a bridge instead? A friend of mine at school once bought a strange pair of football shoes. On the bottom of the shoes there was a rotating pad of studs (转动钉垫). The idea was that you would change direction more quickly if the studs rotated with you. The problem was that every time you stopped you changed direction whether you wanted to or not! I think he wore those shoes twice! One thing I would like is a baseball cap with a built-in radio so you can listen to sport all day with your hands free. While we are on the subject of sport, the Americans invented a kind of robot for sports fans. If you were watching your team on TV on your own, you could press a button and the robot would do "high fives" with you! Fantastic! I wonder if you have any good ideas for inventions like these. 

Who is the greatest teacher in Chinese history? Many people will think of Confucius, whose birthday was September 28. Although he lived over 2, 000 years ago, people still remember and respect him for his contribution to the education today. 

Confucius lived in the State of Lu, which is located in present-day Shandong Province. He lived during the Spring and Autumn Period. He had a hard childhood. His father died when he was only 3. His mother brought him up. As a child, he had to work to help his mother, but young Confucius didn't give up studying. He visited many famous teachers and learned music, history, poetry and sports. 

Later, he became a teacher and started the first public school in Chinese history. At that time only children from noble families could go to school, but Confucius believed everyone should go to school if they wanted to learn. He had about 3, 000 students in his lifetime.
