Some ways to celebrate (庆祝) the birthday

Everyone has his or her birthday. It's a {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (有益的)way to have a birthday party to celebrate the birthday . But do you know other ways to celebrate the birthday {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (好地)？

Have a big dinner with your family. It's a good time for you to talk with your family when you have dinner on your birthday. Tell your parents your problems or ask some {#blank#}3{#/blank#}（问题） about your study and life . They may help you. You may have dinner at home or in a restaurant.

Go on a {#blank#}4{#/blank#}（短的）trip. If your birthday is on Saturdays or {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (星期天)，why not take a trip ? With a friend of {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (你的 ) , you can go to some places near your house . For sure , July and  {#blank#}7{#/blank#} （八月）are the best time to take a trip . Always remember to take a camera（照相机） and you can take some nice {#blank#}8{#/blank#}（照片）.

See a movie (电影). To celebrate your birthday ,{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (怎样) about seeing an interesting movie with your parents or friends ?

Do some housework(家务). You can help your parents do some housework. They  {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (需要)you in their life . It will let them know you are one year older and can help them more.

Stanford is a world-famous university on the west coast of the US. It was built by Stanford and his wife in memory of their only son who died of a strange disease.

Tourists are often surprised at the beauty of Stanford. Among the green trees, buildings with yellow walls and red tops make up a beautiful picture.

Many tourists wonder why yellow and red were chosen. That's because they were the favorites of Mrs. Stanford.

The Big Church is the most important building in Stanford. It stands at the center. It was built by Mrs. Stanford to remember her husband who devoted(贡献 ) himself to the university. There, students and teachers can hold great activities, such as concerts and celebrations.

The tallest building in Stanford is Hoover Tower, which is the landmark of the university. A man named Hoover had done a lot for the university. The things he once used can be seen on the first floor. On the top of the tower,tourists can have a good look at the whole campus(校园).

As one of the world top universities, Stanford has many subjects that stand among the top ones in the world. And computer science has been the first for many years. If you want to study computer science in a university abroad,maybe it is your best choice.

In the State of Zheng, there was a man. He wanted to go to the town to buy a pair of new shoes. 

Before he left home, he measured（测量）his foot with a piece of straw （稻草） for size. After he arrived at the town and went to a shoe shop, he put his hand into his pocket. However, he found that he left the measurement （尺寸） at home. Then, he turned round and started for home. But when he ran back to the shoe shop with the measurement, the shop had closed. In the end, he was busy getting nothing. 

Later, someone asked him, "Were you buying shoes for yourself or for others? "

He answered, "For myself. "

Someone else asked him, "Don't you have your feet on yourself? I think that you need only to try on shoes with your feet to get the right size. You really needn't go back home for the measurement. "

The man of Zheng still said, "I trust the measurement better than my own feet. "

Monday, July 1^st. 

I arrived in Penang in Malaysia this morning with my family. It was sunny and hot, so we decided {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（go）to the beach near our hotel. My sister and I tried paragliding. I felt like I was a bird. It was so {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（excite）! For lunch, we had something very special—Malaysian yellow noodles. They were delicious! In the afternoon, we {#blank#}3{#/blank#}（ride）bicycles to Georgetown. There are a lot of new {#blank#}4{#/blank#}（build）now, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} many of the old buildings are still there. In Weld Quay, a really old place in Georgetown, we saw the houses of the Chinese traders from 100 years ago. I wonder what life was tike here{#blank#}6{#/blank#} the past. I really enjoyed {#blank#}7{#/blank#}（walk）around the town. 

Hello, everyone! My name is Cathy Green and I'm from South California, the US. I love writing. I don't like swimming, jumping or running. I have a pen friend, and she comes from Cambridge. Her name is Lucy. Lucy's parents live in Hong Kong, China. Lucy and I have many hobbies, such as travelling, reading, shopping and people-watching. But what is people-watching? We think this changing world is so wonderful to us that we like to watch the way we are different from others and some of the ways in which we are the same. We like to study the things that change us. We like to see how other people live. 

For most of the year, I live with my father in California. But my mother lives and works in Shanghai, so I am beginning to consider Shanghai as my second home. Shanghai is a very big city. I understand how hard it is to learn English because I've been learning Chinese and French for most of my life. 

Learning languages isn't easy, but I hope to introduce something to all of you to help make your English study more interesting. In return, I will learn more about Shanghai, my second home, and learn more about all of you!
