Can trees talk? Yes, but not in words. Scientists have reasons to believe that trees do communicate with each other. Not long ago, researchers learned some surprising things. Some caterpillars(毛毛虫) attacked a willow tree(柳树) in the woods. The tree changed the chemistry of its leaves and the leaves tasted so terrible that the caterpillars stopped eating them. Then even more surprising, the tree sent out a special vapour (蒸气) a signal causing its neighbours to change the chemistry of their own leaves and make them less tasty.

Communication, of course, doesn't need to be always in words. We can talk to each other by smiling, raising our shoulders and moving our hands. We know that birds and other animals use a whole vocabulary of songs, sounds and movements. Bees dance their signals, flying in certain patterns that tell other bees where to find nectar(花蜜) for honey. So why shouldn't trees have ways of sending messages?

If you are hungry,what do you do?Will you have your favourite meal and stay quiet after that?Just like your stomach,your mind is also hungry.But it never lets you know.It 1 satisfies your needs and never lets itself grow because you make it keep on 2 about your friends or favorite stars.When mind loses 3 freedom to grow,creativity gets a full stop.This 4 be the reason why we all sometimes think ""What happens next?","Why can' I think?"

In fact,hunger of the mind5 out by wide reading.Why reading but not watching TV?It is because reading6 the most educative tool used by us since our childhood.

Once you read a book,you run your eyes7 the lines and your mind tries to explain something to you.The interesting part of the book that is stored in your mind is thought as a seed(种子).Now 8 seed is unknowingly used by you to develop new ideas.9 it is used many times, the same seed can give you great help to relate(关联)lots of things.

This is creativity.In addition,this helps you 10 your vocabulary.In no time you can start talking with your friends in English or any other languages and you will never find it hard to use the right words.Therefore,do give food for your thoughts by reading,reading and more reading.

Chinese Teachers' Day is a festival celebrating the over 2,000-year tradition of respecting teachers and education in China.

The history of Teachers' Day dates back to the Han Dynasty. According to record, during the Han and Jin Dynasties, on August 27 of the lunar calendar each year, the birthday of Confucius(孔子), the emperor would go to the Confucius Temple and worship(敬拜) the great teacher, and would also invite royal teachers to dinner. And on that day, teachers enjoyed a day's vacation and were given dried meat as gifts. Besides, best teachers who were chosen from the whole country would be given 500 liang silver coins each as prizes. In the Qing Dynasty, well performing teachers would be given official titles or promoted to higher positions.

Normally, in ancient time, there was no fixed tuition fee(学费); the parents paid with money or food.

In private schools, teachers would receive money or gifts from the host family at certain festivals or at the beginning and end of each term. The festivals in which teachers received gifts were different in different areas, while the most valued ones were the Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-autumn Festival and Chinese New Year, as well as Confucius' birthday and the private teacher's birthday.

Among all the gift-giving festivals, the first meeting gift was a must. There was a tradition that when students met their teachers for the first time, they needed to kowtow(磕头) to Confucius' picture and then to their private teachers, before giving their teachers a "gift".
