Hello, everyone! Up to now, we have finished learning the first three units of Book 1. Now let's review what we have learnt together.

    In Unit One, we have learnt about what kind of friends we should make from our friend Anne {#blank#}1{#/blank#}was killed by the German Nazis during World War Ⅱ. It was the first time in her life that she{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(keep)diaries in the hiding place. So she had great difficulty{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(set) down what she and her family had gone through. Though she grew so crazy about everything to do with nature, it was no pleasure looking through the dusty windows any longer.

    In Unit Two, we have known that there is more than one kind of English in the world and in some important ways they are very different{#blank#}4{#/blank#}one another. Believe it or not, there is no such thing as standard English. However, today the number of people learning English in China{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(increase)rapidly, although they find{#blank#}6{#/blank#}hard to learn English well. As high school students, we should make full use of our time{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (have) a good command of English in order to pass the College Entrance Examinations in three years.

    In Unit Three, our friends Wang Kun and Wang Wei made up their {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (mind) to take a great bike trip along the Mekong River. They both bought {#blank#}9{#/blank#} expensive mountain bike. Finally they got the chance after graduating from college. Soon they got their cousins{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(interest) in cycling too. After making preparations, they together started their journey and realized their dream to take a great bike trip.

Over the past years, Starbucks coffee {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(become) a coffee chain store. The cafes don't sell coffee; they sell {#blank#}2{#/blank#}very atmosphere. They offer customers the perfect atmosphere{#blank#}3{#/blank#}which they can take time out and relax. Every single store throughout the world is furnished in a romantic style and {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(special)meant to be cozy, private and quiet: earth-toned(褐色调)space, fancy wall paper, lovely paintings,{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (amaze)background and irresistible coffee smell. The most fantastic decoration style about Starbucks {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(design)with oversized chairs and tables outside the store. When {#blank#}7{#/blank#}comes to a sunny afternoon, I love to take a seat outside,{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (bathe) in the afternoon sunshine, and listening to the lovely music {#blank#}9{#/blank#}tasting the most terrific Cappuccino. This is exactly what I love in here—the Starbucks! This is the café I love not merely because of the café itself, but also because of the {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(feel)it brings me.

    The choices people make can cause cancer. Not everyone who {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (use) tobacco products will get cancer, but the chance of getting certain{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(type) of cancer increases with tobacco use. The recent research{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (show) us that the constant misuse or overuse of alcohol may cause cancer of the mouth and throat as well recently.

    Sometimes cancer can be caused by radiation{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (find) in sunlight and X-rays, in addition {#blank#}5{#/blank#}other places. This doesn't mean you should stop getting X-rays or stay indoors, but limiting your{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (expose) to radiation can reduce the chances of developing cancer. The X-rays you get at{#blank#}7{#/blank#} doctor's or dentist's office are not {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(typical) enough to cause cancer.

    And sometimes, the reason{#blank#}9{#/blank#} someone gets cancer is simply an unfortunate mystery. Some cells in the body may start to increase and change. Doctors and researchers can see it happening{#blank#}10{#/blank#}they cannot provide a description of why it started.

    Few people I know seem to have much desire or time to cook. Making Chinese{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(dish) is seen as especially troublesome. Many westerners {#blank#}2{#/blank#} come to China cook much less than in their own countries once they realize how cheap {#blank#}3{#/blank#}can be to eat out. I still remember{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(visit) a friend who'd lived here for five years and I{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(shock) when I learnt she hadn't cooked once in all that time.

    While regularly eating out seems to{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(become) common for many young people in recent years, it's not without a cost. The obvious one is money; eating out once or twice a week may be{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(afford) but doing this most days adds up. There could be an even{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(high) cost on your health. Researchers have found that there is a direct link between the increase in food eaten outside the home and the rise in {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(weigh) problems.

    If you are not going to suffer this problem, then I suggest that the next time you go to your mum's home {#blank#}10{#/blank#}dinner, get a few cooking tips from her. Cooking food can be fun. You might also begin to notice the effects not only on your health but in your pocket.

    It was a city in Hubei Province. On International Children's Day, some orphans(孤儿) from the Wuhan Welfare Institute for Children {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(take) to the park. An elderly westerner was with them. The children love the man very much and call {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Grandpa without doubt. This man was Professor William Dorrity, from Florida, the USA. In 2003, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Professor William Dorrity and his wife retired, they came to Wuhan and started to work as volunteers at the Welfare Institute.

    The Dorritys have been working hard {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(improve) the conditions at the Welfare Institute since they came. They often take children on day-trips, {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(bring) them all kinds of food for the kids to enjoy. They recently bought audiphones(助听器) for four orphans {#blank#}6{#/blank#} hearing problems. They also bought {#blank#}7{#/blank#} wheelchair(轮椅) for ten-year-old Tan Jun, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} suffers from a brain problem. The Dorritys said “we love China and we love children, {#blank#}9{#/blank#} we are happy to do this.{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(Hope), there will be more people to give their love to those children.”

    It was a very foggy day in London. The fog was so thick that it was impossible to see more than{#blank#}1{#/blank#}foot or so. Standing by the side of the road{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(be) buses, cars and taxies and were not able to run. People tried to find{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(they) way on foot but got lost in the fog.

    Mr. Smith had a very important meeting at the House of Commons but he was not familiar with the area and no one could take him there in such heavy fog. He tried to walk there only to find he was lost. Suddenly he ran{#blank#}4{#/blank#}a stranger,{#blank#}5{#/blank#}asked if he needed some help. Mr. Smith said he wanted to get to the House of Commons{#blank#}6{#/blank#}he couldn't find the way. The stranger told him he could take him there.

    Mr. Smith thanked him and they started to walk there. The fog was getting{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(thick) but the stranger had no difficulty{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(find) the way. They went along one street, turned down another, and crossed a square.At last, after about half an hour's walk, they arrived at the House of Commons. Mr. Smith couldn't understand{#blank#}9{#/blank#}the stranger found his way in the thickfog. Soheasked the stranger. "It is no trouble at all to me," said the stranger. "I am{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(total) blind."
