One day，I got a phone call before getting up. It was {#blank#}1{#/blank#}a taxi driver. He said he had my friend's phone. My friend left her phone in his taxi. The driver {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(call) others but I was the first one to answer it.

    It was a {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(rain) morning. Too many people were waiting to {#blank#}4{#/blank#}a taxi. The driver could make {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(much) money (钱) on such (如此的) a day. But he asked me {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (get) the phone. And he said he could bring it to me. I told him my address and {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (quick) got dressed to meet him.

    I thanked him {#blank#}8{#/blank#} his kindness (善良) when he arrived. I was happy for my friend. She came to this city only two weeks ago. So the phone was very {#blank#}9{#/blank#} to her.

    I wrote an e­mail to tell her {#blank#}10{#/blank#} I got her phone. She said she felt warm to be in such a city. I felt warm on such a cold, rainy day, too.

    I recently heard a story about a famous scientist. Because of his great achievements, he was thought to be more creative than the common person. When he {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(ask)why he was able to do this, he gave the answer. It all came from an experience with his mother when he was about three years old." I {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(try)to get a bottle of milk from the fridge when I dropped the bottle and it fell. spilling(滋出)the milk all over the floor-a sea of milk！I was frightened and I didn't know what to do!" he said.

    His mother heard the noise and got into the kitchen. "I {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(consider)how to explain all this to you. Mum." he said. Instead of {#blank#}4{#/blank#}him, she said. "Robert, what a great mess you have made! I {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(not see)such a huge sea of milk before!     His mother then said. "You know, we {#blank#}9{#/blank#}how to successfully carry a big milk bottle with two tiny hands just now. Let's go to the yard and fill the bottle with water to see if you {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(discover)a way to carry it." Then the little boy learned that if he grasped (抓紧)the bottle at the top with both hands, he could carry it without dropping it.

    What a wonderful lesson!

    Car Free Day encourages drivers {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (give) up their cars for a day to protect the environment. People from all over the world get together in the streets {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (remind) the world that we don't have to accept the society full of cars. It was started by 34 cities first in France on September 22, 1998.And gradually(渐渐地) September 22nd {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (be) Car Free Day since then. The first Car Free Day in China was in Chengdu in 2000.The slogan for the day is "If we drive for one less day, we{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (have) one more nice day."

    Organized activities {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (hold) in many cities on Car Free Day every year. In Brussels, Car Free Day shall be valid(有效的) for everybody except persons with a special permit(许可证), but they have to slow down the speed of {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (drive) to 30 kilometers per hour. The public transportation is encouraged. The streets are open only to walkers, bicycles and buses from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. In Beijing, it asks drivers to leave their cars at home for one day each month and walk or ride a bike to work. More and more people {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (take) part in the activities now. In the first quarter of this year, Beijing only {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (have) a few blue sky days and you could see the haze(雾霾) almost every day! We must do more for Car Free Day as a Beijing driver said, "We may not change the weather, but we can choose not to drive." But we do not want just one day and then a return to "normal" life. We should go on with Car Free Day.
