How The Little Kite Learned To Fly?

    By Katherine Pyle

"I never can do it." the little kite said,

As he looked at the others high over his head.

"I know I should fall if I tried to fly."

"Try, "said the big kite." only try!

Or I fear you never will learn at all."

But the little kite said: "I'm afraid I'll fall,"

    The big kite said: "Ah, well, good-bye;

I am off." And he rose towards the sky

Then the little kite's paper stirred(微动)

And he shook himself free for flight

First whirling(回旋) and scared, then bravery grown,

Up, up he rose through the air alone,

While far below he could see the ground,

And the boys like small ants moving round.

When the new term came. I had a new classmate, a little old lady with a warm smile. She said, "Hi, handsome! I'm Rose. I'm 1  years old. Can I give you a hug?" I was a little surprised to see such an old classmate. But I said heartily. "Of course!"

"Why are you  2   at such an age?" I asked. She laughed and joked, "I'm here to meet a husband, get married, have children, and then travel around. "

"No. 3  " I asked, "Tell me the truth. "

"I always dreamed of having a college education. Now I'm getting one!" she told me.

Over the year, Rose became an icon(偶像). She  4  made friends wherever she went. She was very popular in the school

At the end of the term, we invited Rose to  5  at our school banquet(宴会). I will never 6  what she taught us.

"Do not stop playing just because we are old. Here are the secrets of staying  7 . You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your  8 , you die!" she said.

"There is a big difference between growing old and growing up. 9  can grow old. That's  quite easy, " she added, "but to grow up, you have to catch the chances in your life. Have no regrets. We don't 10  for what we did, but for things we didn't do. "

Rose taught us by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.
