One rainy morning, my phone woke me up. It was a phone call from a1 driver who had my friend's mobile phone. 2 , my friend had left it in the taxi the night before.

 A 3morning for taxi drivers in this big city is a very busy time. He asked me where he could meet me to give me the mobile phone. I told him the street where I lived. Then I quickly 4and got dressed in order to meet   5 on the corner.

 My friend had only recently moved to this city. So his mobile phone was very  6 to him.

 When the taxi driver arrived, I thanked him and praised him  7 having such a kind and beautiful heart. I asked him for his name,  8 my friend himself could thank him. He said my praises and 9 were all that he needed. Then he drove off.

 I told my friend how I had received his 10 . Hearing this, he was thankful and said kindness was really everywhere in this world.

    A farmer had some little dogs to sell. As he was putting up an advertisement on the fence of his yard, a 1 happened to pass by.

    “I want to 2 one of your dogs, sir.”

    “Well, " said the farmer, "these dogs come from fine parents and cost a lot of 3.”

    The boy 4 his head for a moment. Then he reached deep into his 5 and pulled out（退） some change（零钱）. “I've got thirty-nine cents（美分）. Is that 6 to take a look?”

    “7," said the farmer. And with that he let out a whistle（口哨），“Here, Dolly!”

    Dolly ran out of the dog house 8 by four little dogs. The boy's eyes danced with joy.

    As the dogs made their way to the fence(栅栏）, the little boy noticed something else moving inside the 9. Slowly another little dog 10: this one much smaller. It was doing its best to 11.

    “I want that one, "the little boy said.

    The farmer said, "Boy, don't want that dog. He will 12 be able to run and play with you like the other dogs would.”

    The boy rolled up（卷起）one leg of his pants and showed a steel（钢）13. Looking back up at the farmer, he said, “You see, sir, I don't 14 too well myself, and he will need someone who 15.”

    My parents took me to Japan when I was little. I lived there for five years.1 I came back, my Japanese was very good. "Can I do something useful with my Japanese?" I asked myself.

    Then, one day last spring, I got a good opportunity(机会).

    Everyone was afraid of SARS, so I stayed at home with 2 to do.

    My father brought me a Japanese book. "Why don't you translate(翻译)it into Chinese? It will be better than3computer games all day."

    I promised (许诺)to do 2000 words each day. But 4 I found it was hard to keep the promise.

    One day in May, the weather was beautiful. But I couldn't go out. Those 2000 words were still5 me.

    After translating only three pages, I had already lost interest in the book.

    I looked at it for a long time. But I couldn't make myself turn the pages. How I6 I could just go outside and play football with my friends!

    I counted the words again and again .I just wanted to give up.

    I felt as if two people were fighting7 my mind. One said, "Don't give up! Keep working hard , and you'll do well!" But then the other one said ,"Go and play! It will be more 8 than translating. Do your work tomorrow. "

    I stood up and would9the computer.

    But then I remembered 10my parents had told me: "Whatever you do, don't stop halfway. " So I sat down and went on with it .

    As a police artist, Joe Brown draws pictures of suspects (嫌疑犯) when people tell him about the 1 of each suspect. Then, the police put the pictures in newspapers and on television to help 2 the suspects.

    Tom was leaving school to be a criminal(罪犯), never to return. He thought he was a lonely boy who was loved by 1. His best friend, Joe, was looking for Tom for the same reason, his mother beat him, 2 , he didn't do anything wrong. The two boys met Huck who 3with their plan about starting a life of crime on Jackson's Island with some food and tools in the boat .

    In the midnight, they landed on the island 5 kilometers away and let the 4 go down the Missouri river. "It is just the life for me," said Tom. "I don't 5 to get up early to hurry to school, and wash, and all those6 things. I'm free now." The other two cheered too. It seemed wonderful for them to live7 on the lonely but happy island. But soon, they found that the life here was hard. They began to miss their parents and friends.

    On Wednesday, Tom returned home and hid under the bed .He heard everyone missed them very much and searched the river ,they thought the boys had drowned(溺亡).

    "Poor Tom, he wasn't really bad, he never8 any harm, and he had a good heart." Aunt Polly said and began to cry. They were going to wait until 9 for their funerals(葬礼).Tom had a new plan in his head, then he went back to his 10 and told everything to Joe and Huck.

    That Saturday afternoon, Aunt Polly's family prepared their 11funeral clothes for the next day with great sadness. Even the weekend was 12 for children, who had no pleasure in their games.

    When Sunday school finished, funeral began in the town church. Almost all the villagers came in black and nobody remembered 13 the church had been so full. Everybody thought they have made a mistake to see only14 in the boys, people all cried.

    Suddenly, there was a slight noise, people all turned around and saw the three "dead" boys walking up the doorway. Aunt Polly, Joe's and Huck's families 15 their boys with kisses and thanks.
