Baseball & Softball
Baseball started in the 1480s in Britain, but later it got very popular in the USA. It came to the Olympics in 1992 for the first time. Softball started in the 1880s and women's soft ball game came to the Olympics in 1996. Now it is really popular in Japan.

You may think that students in the US have little homework or they don't work hard at school. You may also think that they have few rules or their teachers are not strict at all. When I went to school in the US, I found that not all these things were true. Let's take a look at a day at my school.
Take classes. All the students should take classes seriously( 认 真 地 ) . They know their strength(长处) and try to be better at it. They ask lots of questions in class. Grades mean a lot to them. There are lots of rules at school. Sometimes, they can't even use nicknames(绰号).
Do after- school activities. School is over. There is little homework, but there is more to do. There are a lot of after- school activities , like drama(戏剧), sports , art, debate(辩论) and more. In China, many
students do after- school activities just once a week. But students in the US do them for a few hours a day, every day of the week.
Students in the US might have more free time than those in China, but they are hard workers, too.
Christmas for Americans is like the Spring Festival for Chinese people. It is a time when families get together and everyone is happy. Before Christmas, everyone goes shopping to buy the gift for a family member, or a friend. Then they put the gifts under the Christmas tree.
In the weeks before Christmas, the shops are full of wonderful things that children want.
Pets look cute, and some pets are not too expensive to buy — it is easy to buy one quickly. But before you buy a pet, you should ask yourself some important questions, such as" How long do I love this pet?"" Do I have enough time to keep it?"" Can the pet be happy in my family?" Because the family thinks the pets are not interesting any more, or they don't have enough time or money for the pets. So in the UK at Christmas time, you can see many signs(标牌) in pet shops: Think before you buy one!
A. It is also a time for giving gifts. B. A pet is for life, not for Christmas. C. Most people have to wait until Christmas morning before they can open the gifts. D. Children often ask their parents for a pet, so pet shops are very popular. E. It's sad but true that not long after Christmas, people don't want to keep them. |
