My first memory of my childhood is the day when I fell down the stairs at the age of three. I was so upset that I cried for nearly an hour. Finally, I became quiet when I was given a box of chocolates. And luckily, I was not hurt.

    The days were very happy before I started going to school, as I had good neighbors to play with from morning till evening. We played games outdoors, dressed as cowboys and rode around on our tricycles (三轮车) happily.

    At the age of five, I had to go to kindergarten and at first this turned out to be quite an ordeal for me. To begin with, I felt very sad because I had to leave my family and live among strangers. As the days went by, however, I made a lot of friends in class. I became happy again and looked forward to going to school each morning.

    I still remember those days when I was learning to ride a bicycle. On the weekend, my father taught me to ride a bike. I fell and hurt myself several times, but I never gave up. Finally, I was able to join my friends going around the neighborhood on my bike.

    Another favorite memory is the end-of-year party held at the kindergarten. I was chosen to play the role of Jack in the play Jack and the Beanstalk. I performed so well that I became famous soon.

    What a wonderful childhood I have had! Sometimes I wish I could experience those days again.

    I was walking home from work on a busy city street. I wasn't looking forward to going home and my friends wouldn't be able to hang out with me. Then I walked past a homeless person that I hadn't seen before. He was moving back and forth to keep warm and asking for change very gently. He spoke so quietly that I could hardly hear him.

    With these thoughts, I came up to him and invited him to have dinner with me. He walked with me to the restaurant and held the door open for me as we entered.

    We had a good dinner and a pleasant conversation about where we grew up and what kind of music we liked. During the whole time, I tried to respect him and didn't want to show that I was better than anyone.

    I was so grateful for this experience. It changed my life. It'll make me think twice in future before I complain about something I think I lack.

    Old age may not sound exciting. But recent findings offer good news for older people and for people worried about getting older. Researchers found that people become happier and experience less worry after they reach the age of 50.In fact, they say by the age of 85, people are happier with their life than they were when they were 18 years old.

    The findings came from a survey of more than 340, 000 adults in the United States. The Gallup Organization questioned them by telephone. At that time, the people were between the ages of 18 and 85.The researchers asked questions about emotions, like happiness, sadness and worry. They also asked about mental（气质） or emotional stress.

    Arthur Stone in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Stony Brook University in New York led the study. His team found that levels of stress were highest among adults between the ages of 24 and 25.The findings showed that stress levels dropped sharply after people reached their fifties.

    The study also showed that men and women have similar feeling patterns as they grow older. However, women at all ages reported more sadness, stress and worry than men.

    Researchers say they do not know why happiness increases as people get older. One theory is that, as people grow older, they grow more thankful for what they have and have better control of their feelings. So they spend less time thinking about bad experiences.

    Professor Stone says the emotional patterns could be connected with changes in how people see the world, or maybe even changes in brain chemistry.

    The researchers also considered possible influences like having young children, being unemployed（被解雇） or being single. But they found that influences like these did not affect（影响） the levels of happiness.

    For Pineda, it was a long way to succeed.

    His story began in El Salvador, where he was born with something wrong with his mouth. He had great1in speaking. At age 2, his family's house burned down. Pineda was hurt2, and his legs needed to be cut. His mother died when he was 8, and he3years on the streets before he was taken in by an orphanage.
