Every school day, we use schoolbags to carry all of our things to school. They are a big part of our lives. But have you ever thought about the history of the schoolbag?

    In the Han Dynasty(汉朝) , students in old-style private schools used bamboo boxes to carry books to school. People consider the bamboo boxes to be the earliest schoolbags. There were usually two or three layers(层) in the box. Kids put different things like books, brushes, ink stones(砚) and paper in the boxes.

    Hundreds of years later, people developed a new kind of schoolbag called the budai, or the "hip-pocket". The budai was lighter than the bamboo box. With the founding(成立) of the People's Republic of China, military rucksacks(军用帆布包) became popular. Many people carried them when they were in school. Ask your grandparents or parents about these bags. Maybe they can tell you about their experiences of carrying them when they were in school.

    A new style of schoolbags has appeared in recent years. Many of them have colorful and fashionable designs(时尚的设计) on them, such as pictures of cartoons or pop stars. And they are more comfortable to use. Some students pull wheeled bags filled with heavy textbooks and others carry backpacks.

    Schoolbags are still changing. Can you imagine what future schoolbags will be like?

    The Spring Festival is one of the most important festivals in China. During the festival, Chinese people have many activities. They paste Spring Festival Couplets (春联) , greet the New Year and say goodbye to the old year. On the first day of the Spring Festival, people hang out, wearing new clothes. Nowadays, children get red packets from their parents and their relatives. It is a good time for people to visit relatives and friends. More importantly, the Spring Festival is celebrated not only in China but also in other parts of the world.

    The Spring Festival was celebrated in the UK from 1980. Every New Year, people also get together and have lots of activities. They sing songs or watch movies with friends in the cinema. Besides, the Spring Festival has become a key time for Chinese living in the US. They join in a large evening party to welcome the traditional New Year. The Chinese New Year will be welcomed with three weeks of celebration across Australia. Thousands of people come to Sydney's Chinatown. They enjoy fireworks and lion dances. The family dinner on New Year's Eve is an important tradition for Chinese whether they were born in Singapore or moved there from China. They usually hold it at home because having it in a restaurant takes away the meaning of the tradition.

    I often hear some students say English is difficult, and it gives them a headache. So they can't learn it well. But English is very easy for me. I'm good at it. I'm very glad to tell you something about how I study English.

First, I think an interest in English is very important. When I was in Grade One, we had a new subject-English. It was fresh to me. I became interested in it, so I worked hard at it. Soon we had an English exam and I got a very good mark. How happy I was! Since then, I have been learning English harder and harder. Our English teacher often taught us English songs, and the songs sounded nice. I often think how interesting English is!

    Second, English is another language different from our Chinese. We should learn it in the following ways: Listen to the teacher carefully in class, speak bravely, read aloud and have a larger and larger vocabulary, and then practice again and again. And I have a good habit: whenever I have a question, I must make it clear by asking our English teacher. How happy I am when I understand it!

    Besides, I often read English stories, jokes and easy novels. From these I know English is not only interesting, but also useful. They help me understand a lot of things. So, to do more reading is an important way to learn English well.

    And I also do some exercises in our workbooks, and I keep English diaries. English has become a close friend of mine.

    Now I have learned English for more than two years. I am always in the first place in our class. Of course, I hope every classmate of mine can learn English well, too.

    The Internet joins millions of computers all over the world,and today it is used by people all over the world.It was invented in the 1960s in the USA.The American government needed a network of computers for its army.Then in the 1970s scientists and business people also wanted to use the Internet to send and receive messages.For some years,they weren't allowed to use the US network,and when they were allowed to,the messages were in very simple text without photos.

    The World Wide Web was invented by a British scientist named Tim Berners-Lee in 1989.He wanted to send documents to other scientists,so he developed the World Wide Web.This allowed him to send and receive scientific documents with text,drawings and photos(also called multimedia documents).In the 1990s,more and more people began to use the Internet and the World Wide Web.

    So what's the difference between the Internet and the World Wide Web?The Internet is the hardware.It allows us to communicate with other people.The World Wide Web is the software.It allows us to create, see and read multimedia documents.

    The Web is made up of millions of documents called Web pages.These pages are held in computers all over the world.Many people have a favorite website with a number of Web pages on the same subject.

    The email is a way of using your computer to send and receive messages.It's cheaper and quicker to use emails than send normal mails.New users call the normal mail “snail mail” because it's too slow.It took 50 years for 100 million people to listen to the radio.It took 15 years for 100 million people to watch television.By the year 2000, it had taken only about three years for 100 million people to use the Internet.What will happen next on the Internet?

    The Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated in most East Asian countries.

    It is the second most important festival in China after Chinese New Year. To the Chinese, the festival means family reunion(团圆)and peace.

    Chinese people celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with many traditional and meaningful activities, such as eating dinner with family and admiring the moon.

    Chinese people regard the round shape of mooncakes as a symbol of reunion and happiness. Other foods eaten during the festival are harvest foods, such as crabs(蟹), pumpkins(南瓜), and grapes. People enjoy them at their freshest and most nutritious(有营养的)period of time.

    Chinese emperors admired the sun and the moon every year to pray for a good harvest.

    In Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines, celebrations are more than those in China, such as lighting lanterns and dragon dances. In Japan and Vietnam, there are also some new celebrations because Chinese culture has influenced them deeply.

    Everyone changes in his or her life. Mostly these changes take place because of an experience.1me, high school was such an experience. High school has taught me about myself, and that is the most2lesson I have ever learned.

    I used to be quiet and3, not wanting to show my inner self (内在自我).I would never talk about4was on my mind. I was afraid that someone would criticize (批评) me or tell me I was wrong. I cared too much about what others thought of me.

    Now I am no longer afraid to tell others my worries and let them know how I feel. I have changed a lot with the5of my teachers and friends.     The Great Wall of China is one of the greatest wonders of the world. With a history of more than 2,000 years, some parts of the Great Wall have disappeared. , it isstill a very popular place of interest.

It is the  (long) wall ever built. It's from Shanhaiguan on the east coast to Gansu Province  the northwest of China, It is about 8 meters high. The top is 8 meters wide  it gets even wider towards the bottom where it is 15 meters. It is  (make) of stone and brick. The top is hard enough for men on horseback to ride on. The wall was built by hand and it took  (hundred) of years to finish.

No one knows (exact) when the building of the Great Wall was started. It is believed that the wall was built (protect) parts of the country during the Zhou Dynasty. Emperor Qin Shi Huang joined the separate walls built by the Qin, Yan and Zhao Kingdoms. The wall was not only for protection in the north, it was also a symbol of (China) ancient civilization(文明).

    Today, many of the visitors go to see the wall.  they stand on top of a tower and look down on this wall, they can't help (禁不住) saying," Wow, that's fantastic!"

    The bicycle is one of the simplest and most useful inventions in the world. What is most surprising is that it was not  (发明) earlier, although the great inventor Leonardo da Vinci had drawn pictures of bicycles and also of flying machines and some other things. Those things were not produced until long after he  (死).

    A person riding a bicycle uses a little energy to make the bicycle  (移动), and there is no  (污染) at all when you are riding. Even so, in  (发达的) countries, most people don' t travel to work by bicycle. It is not because the bicycles are expensive or people feel  (疲劳的) if they ride to work. It's because the number of cars on the roads becomes  (更大的). It certainly becomes more  (危险的) to ride a bicycle.

    As a result, more people put their bikes away and go to work in their cars, and in this way, the situation is made more serious. Perhaps the best way to make riding safer and more popular is to  (创造) paths only for bicycles, and to make it so difficult and expensive for (驾驶员) to take their cars into the city that they will go back to using their bicycles.
