Mike had a friend. His name was Tom. He was rich but closefisted. He loved money very much, and never gave anything to anyone.
One day, Tom walked with a friend Jeff near a river. He slipped and fell into the river. Jeff ran to help him. He held out his hand and shouted, "Give me your hand and I will pull you out!" The rich man's head came under the water and then came up again, but he didn't hold out his hand. Again Jeff tried, but again the same thing happened.
