In most parts of the world, as far back as anyone can remember , there has been a puppet (木偶) tradition. Although some of us think of puppets as children's entertainment, they were—-and often still are used to tell serious stories to adult audiences. Even in these days of special effects, the puppet the atre still has a special place in many cultures.
The best known puppet characters in Britain are Punch and Judy, glove puppets with woodenheads. The liege puppets are in fact string puppets without strings！They have a single rod (棒) attached to their heads, which means the puppeteers aren't able to raise the arms and legs, but can move the body up and down and the head from side to side. Many of the stories used to be historical or religious but it is Tchantches, a comic character with patched trousers and a big black hat, who is the best loved character today. Like Mr. Punch, he is a simple man who is also greedy, quarrelsome and lazy. He makes fun of everyone, but is often warm--hearted and tender.

Tree Goats
These goats will do a lot for their favorite snacks-including climbing to the top of a 9-m-tall tree! Every summer the argan trees in southwest Morocco produce bitter-tasting fruit that the local goats can't resist. And these peckish goats are doing us humans a favour — when they spit (for sometimes poo!) out the indigestible nut inside the argan fruit, the nuts can be collected to make an oil that's used in hair products and food!
City Whales
They're not visiting the Empire State Building — they're on the lookout for food! Humpback whales are swimming back in the waters off the coast of New York City in the USA. Why? Years of cleanup efforts in the Hudson River — a tidal estuary where fresh and salt water meet — have brought back algae, zooplankton and fish. And the humpbacks, which are the ultimate foodie tourists, weren't far behind! So far this year there have been an incredible 377 sightings.
Forest Penguins
Fiordland crested penguins prefer the warm waters and misty rainforest of southwest New Zealand to the icy Antarctic! With smaller bodies than many cold-weather penguins (such as emperors), the flightless birds live in balmy 21℃. And their eggs stay toasty in this warmer habitat, too, tucked away in caves, bushes and tree stumps where males sit on the nests.
Ocean Sloths
Pygmy three-toed sloths might be slow climbers, but when they get into the water, they're powerful paddlers! These special sloths, which only live in the mangroves of a tiny island off the coast of Panama in Central America, plop into the sea when they want to move to a new tree. Their tummies are often filled with gas due to their leafy diet, so they stay afloat easily-and they can move three times faster in the water than they can on the ground. But since we're talking about sloths, that's really saying much!
A Japanese company has ordered all of its 2,700 employees to get identical (一模一样的) hairstyles. For men, the preferred cut is short on the sides and back but longer on top. For women, the company prefers a bob with a longer fringe (刘海) that can be swept to one side. This unusual request is its effort to help the country save energy.
The spokeswoman for the Tokyo-based construction firm Maeda Corporation Chizuru Inoue explained, "Our company is eager to protect the environment and we encourage our staff to carry out many environment-friendly actions."
She added, "We are not sure of the data yet, but we believe if people have short hair, they do not need to use their hair driers for so long and they will use less water. If all our employees do this, then we may save a lot of power." Some staff are confused about which style they must have and have been asking which salons (美容院) give the best cut.
The energy-saving move is part of a national campaign to reduce energy consumption (消耗) following the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Japan has been struggling to produce enough electricity since the tsunami (海啸) ended production at the Fukushima plants. The government has talked about a move away from nuclear energy towards more sustainable (能持续的) technologies. Many employees cannot turn down the air conditioner below 27 degrees in the hottest summer months.

Then Frank wondered why the stranger had wanted to find Oakfield House at this hour. He knew that the people who lived there were very rich. Almost without realizing what he was doing, he began following the stranger quickly.
The man was soon outside the house and Frank saw him look up at the windows. A light was sill on and the man waited until it went out. About half an hour had passed, Frank saw him climb noiselessly over the wall and heard him drop on the ground on the other side of the wall.
