When the restaurant closed, the boss called the three workers.
"It's time to pay you wages," the boss said.
"I will pay the one who started in the late afternoon first." The boss gave $ 75 to the last worker. The man who had worked since early morning saw this and was very happy. He was certain that he would be paid more. But the boss handed $ 75 to the woman who had started at noon and to him. He took $ 75 but complained to the boss.
"The man who was hired last worked only a few hours," he said." I worked hard the whole day washing dishes but you paid me the same amount as you paid him."
"Listen, friend," said the boss." I have not cheated you. You agreed to work a whole day for $ 75.Now take your money and go home. Can't I do what I like with my own money? Or are you upset because I am generous(慷慨的)? Each person agreed to work for the wage l offered. You will never be happy if you compare yourself with others. Comparing and complaining always make people unhappy."

Try to make friends with your classmates. If they don't like to make friends with you, it's fine. Notice if there is someone whom you feel you can be friends with. Do you know what the world's highest waterfall (瀑布) is? You may say that they are Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls are really beautiful, but in terms of the height, the most fantastic one in the world are Angel Falls. They are deep in the jungles(丛林) of Venezuela.
Few people have ever seen Angel Falls. It's very hard to get there. If you go there on foot, you have to travel for weeks through thick jungles. If you go by plane from Caracas, a city on the southern coast, it will take about four hours.
One of the most interesting facts about Angel Falls is how they were found. They were named after an American pilot. His name was Jimmy Angel. In 1937, his
plane crashed(坠毁) near the top of the falls. That's how he found them.
Angel Falls drop nearly a kilometer from a table— top mountain. The water seems to be dropping straight out of the clouds. The height of the falls is very great.

l witnessed(目击) a terrible accident last Saturday morning. It was raining heavily as, I was walking up the hill towards the station at six o'clock. On this early morning there wasn't much traffic and there weren't many people. Just as I was crossing the road near the top of the hill, a car came around the corner. It was very fast. Suddenly it hit a lamp post(灯柱) and turned over.
I ran to the car to help the driver at once. He was badly hurt and there was a lot of blood on his face. A young woman hurried into the station and phoned for an ambulance(救护车) while I was taking care of the driver. Many people came to see what happened. A policeman arrived a few minutes later and asked me a lot of questions about the accident. After a while, the ambulance arrived and the driver was sent to hospital.
On Monday morning I went to the hospital to see the man. The doctor told me that he had been saved, but he would stay in hospital for a few months.
