As we all know, Chinese students are hard—working. But they're1at the same time.

At school, they have to follow the strict school2For example, they3have long hair or wear strange (奇怪的) clothes.

And at home, they're always busy with their homework and they don't have any free time to do what they like. Once (—旦) they don't do well in exams, their parents will lose4for them.

On weekends, their parents tell them to take part in different classes they don't like. They always feel5and bored. They6interest in school things slowly. Some students can't7it and leave home. Because their parents only care about children's study and they never8what they want.

During the day we work and play, and at night we sleep. Our body rests when we sleep. In the morning we are ready to work and play again. Our body grows most when we are asleep. Children who are tired usually need sleep. We can get better at our lessons after having plenty of rest. Boys and girls who are eight or nine years old need ten hours of sleep every night. Our body needs plenty of air when we are asleep. If we do not get enough fresh air, we will feel tired when we wake up.

While in bed we must not cover our head, our lungs need to get enough fresh air. If we open our windows at night, we can have plenty of fresh air. Cool air is better than air.

Baseball is one of the favorite sports in the U. S. A. Children play baseball in sports fields or parks.

At summer picnic, there is often an informal baseball game. Boys and girls, young and old take turns to bat. There are nine players on each team.

The baseball season goes from April to September. During this time, baseball matches are showed on TV and members(成员) of the important baseball teams become America's heroes (英雄). At the end of the season, the two top teams play against each other. Many baseball fans go together to watch the game. Millions of others listen to the radio or watch the television. People seem to talk only about the game. Even long after it is over, they still talk about the result and the players.

American football is perhaps the most popular sport in the U. S. A. The football season begins when the baseball season ends. More people are interested in football than baseball. When there is an important game, thousands of people sit beside radios or in front of television sets to get the result.

A hobby is not a job or a school subject. A hobby is something you enjoy doing in your spare time. It's not something you need to do. It's just fun. Some people make model ships, keep pets, plant flowers, play computer games or chat on the Internet. Some paint pictures or dance to music. Some collect everything from stamps to seashells (海贝壳)... People take up hobbies because they think these activities can bring them many things like happiness, friendship and knowledge. Anyone, rich or poor, old or young, sick or well, can have a hobby. A hobby will make your life colorful.

Plants are very important. This is because plants can make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals and man cannot make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals can get their food by eating plants and other animals. Man gets his food by eating plants and animals, too. So animals and men need plants in order to live. This is why there are so many plants around us.

There are two kinds of plants: flowering plants and non-flowering plants. Almost all the trees around us are flowering plants. You can know some trees from their flowers and fruit. Non-flowering plants do not grow flowers. You can not see many non-flowering plants around you.

If you look carefully at the plants around you, you will find that there are many kinds of plants. Some plants are large and some are small. Most of them are green. Thanks to the plants around us, we can live on the earth.

Many earthquakes happen every year. Some of these earthquakes are very strong. .

Many people will be hurt or die in the earthquakes. Knowing some ways to protect yourself will help to keep you safe in the earthquake.

If you are indoors when the earthquake happens, the safest place, is under a strong table or desk.   Remember to protect your head and neck with your arms. Stay away from windows, tall furniture and pictures or anything that may fall on you. Do not try to run out of the building.

If you are out of doors, move to clear areas. Be very careful of fallen power lines.

The danger is not over when the strong shaking stops.  We call them aftershocks and they sometimes can be more dangerous than the fast earthquake.

When it is safe for you to move around, check the people near you. Some may need help.

, But you should try to stay calm. That is the most important thing to do in the earthquake.
