Some British people say that they are from Great Britain. Other British people they are from the UK. Some say they are from England, Scotland. Wales or Northern Ireland. What do you know about these different places?
England, Scotland and Wales are on an island in the northwest of Europe called Great Britain. Great Britain together with Norther Ireland is called the United King or UK.
England is the largest part of the UK. Its name comes from people called the Angles. Who came from Germany 1500 years ago. About 53 million people live in England and the capital city is London.
Scotland is in the north of Britain. Over 5 million people live in Scotland. The highest mountain in the UK is in Scotland. It is called Ben Nevis and is 1.345 metres tall. The capital city of Scotland is Edinburgh but the largest city is Glasgow.
Wales is in the west of Britain. About 3 million people live there and about 20 per cent of them speak Welsh. Welsh is one of the oldest languages in Europe. The Welsh flag has a picture of a dragon! The capital of Wales is Cardiff.
Northern Ireland is a part of Ireland, an sand west of Britain. Nearly 2 million people live there. The Giants Causeway is a popular tourist attraction. There are huge rocks made by lava from a volcano, but an old story says that a giant built it! The capital of Northern Ireland is Belfast.

Once, a father and his son went to a park to fly a kite. Their kite flew high in the sky. After a while, the son said, "Father, it seems that the string is preventing the kite from flying higher. If we cut it, the kite will be free and fly even higher."
The father then cut the string. At first, the kite went a little higher. But later, it started to come down. Finally, it fell on the ground.
The son was surprised. He asked, "Father, I thought the kite would fly higher without the string. Why did it fall?"

The son learned a lesson. Sometimes we might feel that we can progress more quickly if we are not tied to our family. But we fail to realize that our family members help us survive the hard times. They also encourage us to reach a higher level in our lives. They are not holding us back but helping us out.
It's hard to turn down a tasty banana. They taste good and you don't have to wash them before eating them. However British scientists say that the fruit may disappear by 2050.
One reason for this is climate change. Scientists at the University of Exeter collected data from 27 countries and regions that produce 86 percent of the worlds bananas. They found that climate change has improved growing conditions in 21 of these countries. In the past 60 years, the average yield has reached 1.37 tons of bananas per hectare.
However, if temperatures keep rising, this advantage will disappear. Ten of the countries, including India, the world's biggest producer of bananas, will produce fewer bananas. By 2050, the fruit may die out.
Shouldn't bananas grow more easily if it's hotter outside? In fact, the perfect temperature for growing bananas is between 24℃ and 32℃. If temperatures get too high, they will stop growing.
Diseases are another danger to bananas. Unlike other crops, the bananas we grow come from shoot cuttings rather than seeds. This means that all banana plants have the same genotype. In other words, if a disease is able to kill one plant, it could kill them all.
One serious disease is called Panama. It spreads easily. It has spread across South Asia, Africa, the middle east, and australia. If one banana plantation suffers from the disease, it will take 30 years until it is able to grow bananas again. Scientists have yet to find a cure for this disease.
