Once, a father and his son went to a park to fly a kite. Their kite flew high in the sky. After a while, the son said, "Father, it seems that the string is preventing the kite from flying higher. If we cut it, the kite will be free and fly even higher."

The father then cut the string. At first, the kite went a little higher. But later, it started to come down. Finally, it fell on the ground.

The son was surprised. He asked, "Father, I thought the kite would fly higher without the string. Why did it fall?"

The father explained, "Son, the string does not prevent the kite from going higher. It actually helps the kite stay in the sky when the wind slows down. When the wind picks up, you can help the kite go higher by pulling the string. If you cut it, the kite will lose your support and fall in the end."

It's hard to turn down a tasty banana. They taste good and you don't have to wash them before eating them. However British scientists say that the fruit may disappear by 2050.

One reason for this is climate change. Scientists at the University of Exeter collected data from 27 countries and regions that produce 86 percent of the worlds bananas. They found that climate change has improved growing conditions in 21 of these countries. In the past 60 years, the average yield has reached 1.37 tons of bananas per hectare.

However, if temperatures keep rising, this advantage will disappear. Ten of the countries, including India, the world's biggest producer of bananas, will produce fewer bananas. By 2050, the fruit may die out.

Shouldn't bananas grow more easily if it's hotter outside? In fact, the perfect temperature for growing bananas is between 24℃ and 32℃. If temperatures get too high, they will stop growing.

Diseases are another danger to bananas. Unlike other crops, the bananas we grow come from shoot cuttings rather than seeds. This means that all banana plants have the same genotype. In other words, if a disease is able to kill one plant, it could kill them all.

One serious disease is called Panama. It spreads easily. It has spread across South Asia, Africa, the middle east, and australia. If one banana plantation suffers from the disease, it will take 30 years until it is able to grow bananas again. Scientists have yet to find a cure for this disease.

    (1) The best temperature for growing bananas is_____.
    A . 15℃. B . 20℃. C . 27℃. D . 35℃.
    (2) From the text, we can learn that__________.
A . India produces 86 percent of the world's bananas. B . climate change can hardly affect the growing conditions of bananas in India. C . India is the world's biggest producer of bananas. D . India will produce more bananas in the future.
    (3) How many reasons for the disappearing of bananas are mentioned in the text?
    A . One B . Two C . Three D . Four
    (4) Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A . The hotter it is outside, the better bananas will grow. B . British scientists say bananas will certainly disappear by 2050. C . The bananas people grow come from seeds. D . It takes a long time for a plantation to recover from the disease Panama.
    (5) Where is this text probably from?
    A . A guidebook. B . A textbook. C . A newspaper. D . A storybook.

Do you ever feel like your thoughts are going around in circles? One minute, you're thinking about your homework .

Is it possible for us to slow our thoughts down or even stop them completely? Most thoughts are actually in the background without us noticing them and there's not really a way to turn these things off. Human brains can unconsciously process about 11 million pieces of information per second, according to Forbes.

Even when you aren't using your computer while it's turned on, it is still running operations "in the background". Your computer, much like your brain, is "thinking" all the time, even if you're not actively using it.

Some researchers consider this as "thought-chatter". It describes the random thoughts that go in and out of our mind at different times during the day. Albert Einstein came up with his famous theory of relativity while daydreaming at work. But too much thought-chatter can make us feel too anxious or worried. .

    A. You can compare this to how a computer works.

    B. The next minute, you're thinking about your plans for the weekend.

    C. Meditation can help us clean up some of these thought-chatter.

    D. Actually, the brain never stops thinking" in a broader sense.

    E. Some thought-chatter can be enjoyable, such as daydreaming.
