    A couple in their 60s has travelled 12,000 miles across 16 countries from Britain to China — riding their bikes the entire way. Grandparents Peter and Chris stepped on the long journey after deciding to "do something a bit different". They traversed (横穿) cities, deserts, mountains and everything in between across Europe, the Middle East and the East Asia. The married couple of 37 years enjoyed themselves with delicious local food and spent most nights inside a tiny tent put up wherever they could find shelter.

    Peter, 66, said the moment when they finally had a look at the famous Great Wall after a year and a half of cycling 30 miles a day was "really exciting". At the end of their journey, the special pair didn't fly home but instead choose to book a cabin (舱) inside a 400m-long container ship. The final part was a three-week voyage from Singapore across the Indian Ocean and into the Mediterranean Sea before arriving at Southampton.

    "You never know what the day is going to bring. All you know is that you are going to get on your bike and cycle. Every day is an adventure and every day is new. Overall, the experience is absolutely unbelievable, " Peter said.

    Peter and Chris initially set out to cycle from Britain in January 2017 but were forced home. They had cycled all the way to Hungary when Peter slipped on tiles and broke his leg. After seven months of recovery, the couple set out again in Britain. They finally arrived in China in November 2018.

    Both Peter and Chris agreed that the best part of the entire trip was coming across the kindness of strangers along the way, many of whom invited the couple for food and drink. Chris, 64, said, "It was a wonderful experience, particularly wonderful because of the amazing people we met along the way."

     I am often laughed at for my habit of traveling by foot. I often walk about 3 miles from home to work rather than take the subway. Sometimes, kind-hearted drivers will offer me a ride, thinking that my car has broken down.

    But for me, walking is a good opportunity to relax myself. Besides, it helps my back recover from a day spent bent in front of a computer screen. In terms of health, I have always thought I'd have the last laugh, and now there's even more evidence on my side.

    Nine years later, brain scans showed that those who had walked more had greater brain volume(容量) than those who walked less. Four years after that, the volunteers were tested again—this time for dementia (痴呆). Among the group, 116 people showed signs of memory loss or dementia. Those who had walked the most—at least 7 miles each week—were half as likely to have cognitive(认知)problems as those who walked the least.

    A study has found that the simple act of walking may improve memory in old age. As we age, our brains shrink, which can lead to the loss of memory. However, experts say there's still not enough data to prove that exercise can prevent memory loss. It's also too soon to say whether exercise may prevent dementia or simply delay it in people who would eventually develop it anyway. But for those who suffer from dementia(痴呆), even a short delay could mean great losses in quality of life.

    Every American family has its own traditions on Thanksgiving Day, and mine is not different. Once the national holiday arrives, my mom rises early to make the meal. She puts a turkey in the oven, chops carrots and bakes pies. I'm sorry to say that the men in the family — my dad, my younger brother and myself — rarely pitch in to help. Our job is to wash the mountain of dirty dishes after the meal is over.

    Around 2 pm every Thanksgiving Day, family members seat themselves around the kitchen table. Plates of turkey, vegetables, salad, rolls and pies cover it.     But, the funny thing is, every time I sit down for Thanksgiving dinner and try to say a prayer of thanks, my mind usually goes blank. I think it has something to do with my growling (咕咕叫) stomach and all of that food sitting right there under my nose.

    Eventually, though, we all finish our short prayers and dig in. To be sure, the day includes other highlights — visiting with family and watching football. But usually around 6 pm we are all ourselves stuffed like turkeys and thankful to have a nice warm bed to sleep in.

    Getting your children to study can be a little like getting them to eat their vegetables.

     Make a study time and have it at the same time every day.This will help your kids to learn to schedule their day and will give them a sense of control over how they spend their time.

    Allow them to study in blocks of time, such as for half an hour with a five­minute break in the middle.  Idea study times are after dinner or right after school before dinner.

    Never allow your children to study in front of the television，as that will encourage passive activity.

    You'll also need to help your kids find the right place to study.After you've set up a good study time for little learners，set up a good place where they can get those creative juices flowing.

      Make sure there is a table or a desk and a comfortable chair.

     This includes helping them out with their homework sometimes and being there for them with the answers to any questions.The input you give your children during study periods will help form a bond and help make studying enjoyable.

    Just before Christmas, my daughter Katie and I went over to my dad's place to decorate. I couldn't help 1 the old glass balls when 2 them on the tree. Later that night before I went to sleep, in the quiet darkness, I recalled some 3 from years ago.

    When Dachi had been with us for three or four years, I think I may have become a bit too confident with him. One day, I walked out of the house and didn't realize that he was still sitting on my shoulder the door behind me shut loudly. He (fly) away.

    Last year, I went to Australia for a short-term study like an international student. One of my classmates suggested we shared our favorite recipes for foods from our own countries during New Year's party. We all agreed to this wonderful idea and cooked my unique dishes for the party. Hariyati from Indonesia shared a kind of cookie what was shaped like elephant ears. Susan from South Africa prepared some sweet dumplings packed in several banana leaf. Chiemi from Japan cooked special rice balls mixing with fish. And I was served Daoxiao noodles, my hometown — Shanxi's local food. These variously foods were all delicious. Therefore, my favorite was still Chinese food.
