The Sweetest Sight
I was in the most beautiful city in the world, yet I only wanted home.
It was an amazing week for my husband and me –the trip of a lifetime. Months ago, when my husband told me that he would have a meeting in London. I expressed my1to go to Europe together with him. Then we asked his mother to 2our two children and started off.
During the week's time,3visited London and Paris –as much as we could, Big Ben, the Louvre and so on. All these were beautiful places we expected to see before. We really enjoyed ourselves.
On our last night in Paris,4we enjoyed the night view(夜景) of the Eiffel Tower, my husband called home. His mother5the phone. In a second, my husband's face fell and he looked so worried. I could feel something 6happened.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
He didn't answer and continued to listen. A few minutes later, he said 7to me that Tony, our seven-year-old son, had fallen off his bike and 8his leg. He must be sent to hospital at once.
At that moment, Paris suddenly lost its charm(魅力).
"I don't want to be here! I shouldn't be here! I should be home 9 my kids!"
We hurried back to our hotel and then to the airport …
Finally, we got home. We rushed into our children's bedroom. Seeing our two children, I suddenly realized the truth: there is no 10 sight(风景)in the world than your children's faces that greet you at home.
When I was four, one day I was playing outside our house. I saw my grandfather's truck. It was black and looked very old. I thought, "Grandpa doesn't have to drive such an ugly truck. Maybe I can make it look better." I got some paint and a brush which were left in the kitchen by my father. I painted the truck white and blue all over. I was finishing the job when my mum walked up and stopped me. She was worried that my grandfather would be angry. However, when my grandfather looked at my paintings on the truck, he laughed loudly, "Angela, that's the prettiest truck I've ever seen! I love it! "
Sometimes adults(成 年 人) don't stop to see things through children's eyes. They missed so much beauty in the world. Luckily, my grandfather saw things in another way.
Gardening is popular in many parts of the world. It brings us sweet smelling flowers, fresh fruit and vegetables. But you can get more from your garden.
Gardening helps to keep healthy. Today's people sit indoors for too long and don't get much exercise. When you garden, you have to move around. It's a good chance for you to exercise your body by watering flowers or doing some digging. Besides, when you are in your garden, you can feel the warm sunshine. This means you are getting Vitamin D. It help your bodies use calcium (钙), which necessary to keep your bones(骨骼) strong.
It gets them off computers, televisions and phones. Gardening can be great teacher to teach children about nature and healthy eating. It can also help them to understand the meaning of "No pains, no gains."
Gardening is a great way to meet people and build relationships. When you are gardening, you are outdoors. So it is a perfect time to communicate with your neighbors. Most people love to talk about their hobbies, and so do gardeners. They usually enjoy showing people what they are growing. And most enjoy sharing advice and stories about their gardens.
Scientists in Britain and the United States have made a new kind of enzyme(酵素) that eats plastics(塑料). With its help, plastics can be turned into smaller parts and go away quickly.
Scientists believe that, in the future, it could solve the problem of plastic pollution.
The enzyme is able to break down PET, a form of plastic. PET was first made in the 1940s and is now widely used to make plastic bottles. It can remain in the environment for many years and pollute large areas of land and water. So it has always been a headache to deal with the waste from PET and other plastics.
The researchers made the discovery(发 现) while examining the structure of a natural enzyme in Japan. They found that the natural enzyme was helping to break down PET plastics. So, they
decided to make small changes to the enzyme by adding some amino acids(氨基酸). It made the natural enzyme's plastic-eating abilities work faster and better.
John McGeehan, one of the lead researchers, said, "We've made an improved enzyme. It's better than the naturl one. And we are trying to make more improvements to it." He went on."
The enzyme is not harmful to humans or animals, and it is friendly to the environment. So we are considering putting it into wider use."
The team is now trying to make the enzyme break down PET in large quantities(大量的). "We'll see that the plastic pollution may be stopped with this technology. However, there is still a long way to go," John McGeehan added.
A 12-year-old girl from Virginia, US, never thought that a simple message she put online could bring her big problems. She posted the words, "Killing. Meet me in the library Tuesday", with three emojis(表情符号) of a gun, a knife and a bomb(炸弹) on Instagram, a social media(社交媒体). She was told that she broke the law because of threatening(威胁) her school.
This problem is not far away from us. Not long ago, Ni Hanxiang, a Chinese student at a university in the US, was sent back to China after expressing on social media that he would kill his teachers if he failed to pass his exams.
In China, posting threatening words online is also against the law. In 2013, Wu Hongfei, a singer, got into trouble for saying on weibo that she wanted to blow up a building.
"Threatening happens not only face to face but also through the Internet, social media and the telephone," said Mr. Cao, a lawyer from Chongqing. "Although the law of China protects people's right of free speech, it doesn't include words that threaten others' lives and national safety."
"Some people may not mean to threaten. They may just be trying to say "I'm strong", said Fred Pratt, a lawyer from the US.
The girl's mother said her daughter was a good kid who had never been in trouble before. Ni Hanxiang also said he didn't realize that what he put online was so serious.
"But not knowing the law doesn't mean the law will treat you any differently if you break it," says David Allen Green, a lawyer from the UK. So, do you think we'd better spend a minute or two thinking about the words or emojis we use on social media before we press "send"?

I couldn't find the bus stop. I came up to a man who was walking near me and showed him the bus number. He nodded and asked me to follow. We walked for about 10 minutes and finally got to the bus stop. I wanted to give him a hug (拥抱) to show thanks, but he just said goodbye and walked away.
