All students1to have good study habits. When you have good study habits, you learn things 2. You also remember them easily.
Do you like to study in the living room? This is not a good place,3 it is usually too noisy. You need to study in a quiet place, like your4. A quiet place will help you only to think about 5.
When you study, do not think about6 things at the same time. Only think about your homework. If you do this, you will do your homework much more quickly, and you will make 7mistakes.
Good study habits are very important. If you do not have them, try to develop them. If you already have some, try to make them better.
When I was 7 years old, I went to the USA with my mom. I can still1 the first Halloween holiday I had in the USA.
2 the morning of Halloween, we paid a visit to a pumpkin(南瓜)farm. Each of us brought a pumpkin to school for us. I used my pumpkin to make a lantern which had two round eyes and a scary mouth.
In the afternoon, we3the Halloween costumes (服装) and had a parade (游行)in school. Some of the costumes were funny, but some of them4scary. I chose to wear a Superman costume.
I did a lot of things that day, but the part I liked 5 was" trick or treat" in the evening. After dinner, I went outside with a bag. I hoped to get a lot of candies from my neighbors. At first, I was a bit nervous,6when I knocked at the first door, my heart was beating very fast. A lady came out, and I said carefully to her, "Trick or treat. "My voice was very low, so low that I could hardly hear myself speak. To my surprise, the lady was so kind that she gave7two candies, and I was so excited. I thanked the lady and moved on. I can't remember how many houses I visited, but I can remember how many8I got - I got 91 that day, and I was so happy.
What a happy Halloween I had! And I wish we could have Halloween every month!
When you are learning a language, listening, speaking and writing are important, but reading can also be very helpful. When you read, you can not only learn some new words, but also learn how to use them. When you read a passage, it gives you a good example for writing.
Here are some good reading tips.
Firstly, try to read at the right level(水平). Read something that you can understand. If it is too hard for you, it is not interesting.
Secondly, try to understand the new words. If there are four or five new words on a page, don't use a dictionary. Instead, try to guess their meanings as you read. Mark (标记) them with a pencil. Then look them up in a dictionary when you finish reading, and write them down in your own vocabulary book. Try to remember them.
Thirdly, try to read for a short time once a day. Fifteen minutes or half an hour every day is better than two hours every Sunday. For example, you can read before you go to bed, or after you get up or at lunch time.
Lastly, read something that interests you. Choose a newspaper, a book or a magazine about a subject that you like. It will be easy enough for you to understand.
I used to have a friend called Matilda. We were together at secondary school. When we were 16, she moved because of her father's job, but we kept in touch. We used to write long letters to each other. I went to stay with her a couple of times too. We lost contact(联系)after university. I'd love to see her again because we used to be really good friends.
I used to hate a couple of teachers at school, but I think the one I hated the most was my French teacher. He was really terrible. I don't think he liked children or even teaching. He used to be impatient with us and he didn't explain things well. I failed French. it was the only subject I ever failed at school﹣because of my attitude to French.
I used to play a lot of squash(壁球), but I recently started playing tennis and now I like it better. The problem with squash is that it's pretty hard and maybe I'm just not strong enough to play it. Also the friend I used to play with always beat me. The great thing about tennis is that it's outdoors so I can enjoy the fresh air. It's less competitive and more fun. The only problem is that you can't play when it rains.
Kwanzaa(宽扎节)is a celebration of African American history and culture. It begins on December 26th and continues until New Year's Day, January 1st.
During the festival, a family member, usually the youngest child, lights candles in a special candle holder. Each night a candle is lit. Traditionally there are three green candles, three red candles and a central black candle. They represent the seven Kwanzaa principles (原则). The principles are believed to play a big role in building strong, successful families, neighborhoods, etc. In the evenings, adults share stories and explain how to follow the seven principles in daily life. On the sixth day, which falls on New Year's Eve, family and friends get together to enjoy a large meal.
Kyle, a third grader, wrote this about Kwanzaa, "When we celebrate Kwanzaa, we have many people at home, light the candles, and have a nice dinner. We learn the meaning of Kwanzaa and remember family members. We say something good about them. Last year, we remembered my grandmother. "
In 1966, Dr. Karenga created Kwanzaa. He was studying the history of Africa at that time. Dr. Karenga wanted to create a holiday to bring African Americans together and celebrate their history and culture. He called the holiday" Kwanzaa". In fact, the name comes from an African language, and it means" first fruits of the harvest (收获季节)".
Mom and Dad are two of the most important persons in your life. Over your lifetime, they may influence you more than anyone else you will meet. So if your mom loves to read, you just might grow up carrying a book wherever you go, just as she does. But parents do a lot more than just pass on their hobbies. Moms and Dads need to care for their kids the minute their kids are born. Most parents will do this as long as they live.
Here are some ways you can stay close, get along well, and build a strong relationship with your parents.
Spend time together. Instead of playing computer games or watching TV, ask your mom and dad to play with you. Go outside together, or do some reading.
Be kind. Little things might mean a lot to your mom or dad. You can brighten a parent's day with a hug, a card, or a joke. It's also lovely when a kid cleans up his or her room without being asked. And if you try not to fight with your brothers or sisters, your parents will be so happy!
Do your best at whatever you do. You don't have to be perfect, but when you do your best, you make your parents proud. It makes them happy to see how you're turning into a good kid. Why?Because it lets them know they're doing a good job.
