Good morning, everyone!
My name is Zhang Jun, from Class Three. As you know, today is Tuesday, May 31st, 2015, “World No-Tobacco Day(世界无烟日)”, which is celebrated to 1 the worldwide people of the danger of smoking. Of course, my topic for the speech is “No smoking”. Here are two 2 to give up smoking.
Smoking is 3 as it can cost a lot of money. It wastes 200 billion dollars each year in the world. It is said that the price of cigarettes will continue to rise in coming years. Giving up smoking can 4 a lot of money.
Smoking is very harmful. It does harm tonot only the smokers5the people near them. About 3 million people die of diseases caused 6 smoking every year.
7, more and more people have come to realize the great harm of smoking. Smoking in public places started not to be 8in our country from May 1, 2011. The ban(禁止) has covered all indoor public and 9places such as parks, hotels, theatres, museums and restaurants, but not offices. Have you ever smoked in our school, my dear classmates? Please stop right now. It's good for your 10 !
That's all. Thank you for your listening!
So, let's imagine you are walking down the street drinking a box of tea. You finish drinking the tea. Now, what do you do with the box? Do you drop it on the ground? Or, do you do the right thing and drop it in a trash can? Hopefully, you drop it in the trash can because, besides harming the environment, littering is also very impolite.
Recently, a magazine published a list of the most polite cities in the world. They looked three things: did people litter, did shop clerks say thank you and did people hold the door open for the person behind them? The top three politest cities were New York, USA, Zurich, Switzerland, and Toronto, Canada. Hong Kong, China was number 35. Shanghai wasn't even on the list.
Does that mean that Shanghai is not apolite city? Well, maybe. There are different ways to judge(判断) politeness but the survey was looking at how a visitor to a city would feel when walking around its public places. Visitors don't like to step over empty tea boxes as they walk down the street. They don't like it when they buy something and the shop clerk doesn't say thank you or even give them a smile. They also don't like it when someone lets a door slam(砰然关上) into them instead of holding it open.
Shanghai is a nice city but it is not always the most polite city. I don't think this is intentional(有意的). I think it's just a lack of awareness(缺乏意识). China is becoming a popular place for tourists to visit. When they come to Shanghai they will find a friendly city: it would be nice if they also found apolite one. And, remember, being polite makes you feel good, too. It's nice to be nice.
A young man woke up one morning under a bridge and checked his pocket. All he had left was less than ten dollars. He bought food and as he sat down to eat, an old man and two children came along. The old man asked him to help them with food as they had not eaten for almost a week.
The young man looked at the children—they were so weak that they could hardly stand. With the last bit of kindness he had he gave them all the food. The old man and children thanked the young man and then gave him a dirty old coin. The young man said, “You need this coin more than I do— just keep it.” The old man insisted(坚持) that the young man put it in his pocket—and finally he did.
The old man and children sat down to eat. And with no money, no job and no food, the young man went back under the bridge to lie down. As he was about to fall asleep he saw an old newspaper on the ground. He picked it up and saw an ad inviting people with old coins to come to a store. He decided to go there with the dirty old coin the man gave him.
When he arrived at the store, he gave the keeper the dirty old coin. The keeper cried loudly. It was part of a Spanish treasure ship that had never been found. This same old coin was worth 67,000 dollars. The young man was pleased. He immediately sold the coin for money and then looked for the old man and little children to thank them and share the money. By the time he got to where he left them eating, they had gone.
Today people are paying more and more attention to improving their health through sports and exercise. But some of them have some wrong ideas about it.
A plate of chicken is a good meal before games because it has much energy.
In fact, the best meal before games should have carbohydrates(碳水化合物). Foods like potatoes, bread, bananas are rich in it, chicken and meat are not. Carbohydrates are the best and most easily used forms of energy. The energy that you get for today's game is from what you ate yesterday.
The best time to exercise is early in the morning.
Morning is a good time to exercise, but it may not be suitable for you. If an afternoon or evening period suits you, and you enjoy the feeling of getting healthier, you can choose any time to exercise. There is no fixed time for you to exercise.
If you drink water when you exercise, you'll get headaches and feel tired.
The fact is that you must have some water during breaks when you exercise. And after exercising, you must have enough water. If you don't drink enough water, then you'll probably get headaches and feel tired.
Exercising the same body part every day is the fastest way to improve strength.
False! Exercising the same body partevery day is the fastest way to cause problems. To improve strength, you want to work your muscles(肌肉) hard, but then you need to give those muscles a day of rest. Too much exercise can cause serious problems to muscles.
Girls who do strength training will make their muscles big.
Wrong! We usually connect those big muscles with bodybuilders(健美运动员), but girls don't have enough male hormone(雄性激素) to make their muscles big like men. Strength training is a good way to make their muscles strong for girls.

In1997, Bobbi McCaughey gave birth to seven babies. They all survived(存活). This autumn, McCaughey's children are preparing to have 18th birthday.
Eighteen years ago, the birth of McCaughey's seven children was huge news across the world. Bill Clinton, American President at that time, the family and congratulated them. Doctors worried that they wouldn't survive their first few days, but they did. Many people helped them and they grew up.
"Somany things have happened in 18 years. All the happiness and are special to us,"said Mum Bobbi McCaughey. Now her children areto graduate from high school.
I've been working in a school for more than twenty years. Many parents often ask me, "How can you teach your child good study skills? How can he or she get the homework done as quickly as possible?" Here are some pieces of my advice.
If the child is as young as nine or ten, ask him or her to prepare a small notebook to write down the homework given by his or her teachers. By developing this habit, he or she will learn to be much more responsible.
Another piece of advice is to find agood place to study. This should be a quiet place that is free from everything but study things. No games, computers, or televisions. Once you have decided ona place to study, this should be the only place where your child does his or her homework and studies.
There should be also a best time for homework to be done. Usually, homework should be done as soon as the child gets home from school. This also goes for the kids who take part in after-school activities. Of course, it is a good idea to allow the child to have a healthy snack before the work begins.
The final suggestion is to remember that it is the child's duty to do his or her homework. Some children give up easily and go to Mom and Dad for help when they have a problem. Try to let them solve it first. By doing this, they will get a sense of success from getting over problems. In this way we help them to help themselves.
