Class is over. Vicky and her friends are going to the noticeboard. Let's have a look.

    Betty and I are best friends. Our birthdays are on the same day, so every year we have a birthday party together. But this year, we had a costume party at my home instead.

    While we were writing the invitations (请帖), my mom came in and asked, “Why not invite John?” John came to our class a few months ago, but he already got better grades in math than anyone else in class. I wrinkled (皱起)my nose, “Mom, he wears the same pants to school every day. How could he even buy a new costume?” Mom said nothing. The next day, Mom gave me some new clothes. “I thought it would be nice for you to give these to John.” Mom said. But how? We didn't want to make John embarrassed (尴尬). We discussed it for a long time. Finally, Betty and I had a good idea.

    On the day of our party, kids arrived, dressed differently. John arrived, in an old pair of shoes, but still in the same brown pants as usual. We danced, ate snacks and played games in groups. Before eating the birthday cake, Betty said in a loud voice,“ Now it's time for the great prize(奖品) game. It's the following riddle…” It was a math game. None of us was surprised when John came up with the right answer first and walked off with the prize.

    Everything went on well as we planned. John wore a new pair of pants and a new shirt the next week. He felt happy. So did we.

    When we help others, we need to find a proper way, or we may hurt them in another way.

    In Chinese lunar calendar, there are 24 solar terms(节气) in a year. Start of Summer means the coming of a new season—summer. And it begins on May 6 and ends on May 21 this year. The temperature rises(上升) quickly during this time. Here are three things about how Chinese greet the Start of Summer.

    Checking one's weight(体重)

    The habit of weighing people at the Start of Summer is still popular in some places of China today. It's said that this practice will bring health and good luck to the people weighed.

    Eating eggs

    In the old days, Chinese people believed a round egg was a symbol of a happy life and eating eggs on the day of Start of Summer was a good wish for good health. People put tea into the boiling water together with eggs to make “tea eggs”. Today it has become a local snack in many places of China.

    Taking care of the heart

    According to the Chinese traditional medicine, Start of Summer is a key time to protect the heart. When it grows hot, heat can affect health. So people prefer food such as fruit and vegetables.

    In Thailand, people do not eat with chopsticks, like in China, Japan and Korea. They use spoons and forks. . Because most food is already cut. If you need to cut things, use the side of your spoon.   . If you are right-handed, keep the spoon in your right hand and the fork in your left hand. . The rice is not on the same plate with the other food. It is not necessary to finish all your rice or all your food. It is good to leave a little on your plate. If you eat everything, it means you want more.

      . The host will ask you two or three times if you want more food. It is the same with whatever you are drinking. During the meal, never empty your cup or glass. When it is less than half full, your host or neighbor will fill it again.    . Always refill(再加满) your neighbor's glass. This means that you must keep an eye on your neighbor's glass all through the meal.

In America, people often sell some of their old . So the children often put the old toys in front   their houses. If people buy them, the children can get some money. Some children help others wash cars or sell newspapers to get money.

    Zhang Yan, a 25-year-old man, made his first show in New York Fashion Week in 2019.He prefers to call  a tailor (裁缝) instead of a designer. In his view, one must be more talented and skillful to be a tailor.

    He watched a fashion show on TV  the first time when he was in middle school. He was very surprised that the clothes  so beautiful. Then he made up his mind to design clothes in the future. But his parents saw designing as a “woman's job” without future. Even  his father and mother didn't support (支持) him, Zhang never gave up his dream and still learned about different skills to design clothes.

    After starting his own business, Zhang tried to make traditional clothes like cheongsam. He hopes he can make  whole world see the beauty of Chinese culture.
