Getting around in Canada is fairly easy. Most cities have urban transportation systems, including buses, streetcars, and trains, and some of the larger cities also have subways.

You can board the transportation at regular stops along the routes. Some let you pay in cash, others require tickets. If you don't have a ticket for the bus, you must pay the right amount of money. This is because the driver does not carry any change. Once you get settled, you may want to buy a monthly pass or a package of tickets to save money. You can buy subway tickets at the subway station.

If you have to take several buses or change subways on a single trip, you do not need to pay money each time. Simply ask the driver for a transfer, or pick one up from the machine on the subway platform.

If you are not sure where to board the bus or the streetcar, just ask someone, or follow the crowd. It's usually at the front of the bus, where you show your pass to the driver. When using public transportation, Canadians line up. First come, first served, is a common approach to many activities in Canada.

Maps of routes and schedules are usually available from the public transit company in your area, and there may also be a telephone information line. You may want to ask someone for the name of the transit company in the area where you live, and then look it up in your telephone book.

    (1) What does this passage mainly talk about?
A . How to use public transportation in Canada. B . How to save money when traveling. C . Where to find subways in large cities. D . How public transit companies work.
    (2) By buying a monthly pass or a package of tickets, you can ________.
A . take a bus whenever you want B . go wherever you like C . spend less money D . have comfortable seats
    (3) If you have to change subways on a single trip, ________.
A . you have to pay each time B . you should buy another ticket from the machine C . you must ask for the driver's permission D . you can take the rest free of charge with a transfer
    (4) What should you do when you want to get on the bus?
A . Go to the front of the bus. B . Wait patiently in line. C . Push to the front of the line. D . Show your pass to the crowd.
  • 16. 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

    A. I've never regretted it.

    B. Always look at the bright side.

    C. Do not envy people who are happy.

    D. Stop asking for everyone's approval.

    E. Inner peace can lead to happiness, so smile more often.

    F. Here are a few tips for increasing happiness in daily life.

    G. It is usually experienced at a special moment.

What is happiness? When you can feel inner peace and satisfaction, you are happy. This usually happens when we do something we love or achieve something that we value. It is our opinions that make us feel happy or unhappy. All of us constantly go through various situations or conditions, but we do not have to let them influence our reactions and feelings.

Try hard to make a change of the way you look at things. That means looking at the good and positive side of every situation. Pay attention to solutions, not problems. Listen to relaxing and uplifting music. Watch funny and interesting programs that make you laugh.

Always look at what you have done and not at what you haven't done. Look at what you can do, not at what you cannot do. Each day do at least one act to make others happy. When you make someone happy, you'll become happy, and then people will try to make you happy. On the contrary, be happy for their happiness. Communicate with happy people and try to learn from them to be happy. Remember, do your best to stay detached (冷静的) when things do not occur as intended and desired. Detachment has much to do with inner peace.
