I was 16 when one morning my father told me I could drive him into a village, about 18 miles away, on the condition that I take the car in to be serviced（保养）at a nearby garage（汽车修理厂）. Having just learned to drive and hardly ever having the 1  to use the car, I happily accepted. I drove Dad into the village and promised to  2 at 4 pm, and then drove to a nearby garage. Because I had a few free hours, I 3 to catch a couple of movies at a theater near the garage. When the last movie had finished, it was six o'clock. I was 4  hours late!

    Brenda Bongos was a happy, talented girl. She had one big dream-to play the drums in a band. But one big problem lay in her way. To be good enough to play in a band, Brenda had to practice a lot, but she lived next-door to a lot of old people. Many of them are sick. She knew that the sound of beating drums would really get them nervous. So, she had tried playing in the strangest places: a basement, a kitchen, and even in a shower. But there was always someone who would get mad.

    One day, while watching a science documentary on TV, she heard that sound cannot travel in space, because there's no air. At that moment, Brenda Bongos decided to become a musical astronaut.

With the help of a lot of time, books and work, Brenda built a space bubble (透明圆形罩). This was a big glass ball connected to a machine which sucked out (抽出) all the air inside. All that would be left inside was a drum kit (成套设备) and a chair. Brenda got into the space suit she had made, entered the bubble，turned on the machine, and played those drums like a wild child.

    It wasn't long before Brenda Bongos became very famous. Many people came to see her play in her space bubble. Shortly afterwards she came out of the bubble and started giving concerts. Her fame spread so much that the government suggested that she be part of a special space journey. Finally,           , and it was far beyond (超越) her first dream of playing drums in a band.

    Years later, when asked how she had achieved all her dreams, she thought for a moment, and said," If those old people next-door hadn't mattered so much to me, I wouldn't have found a solution, and none of this would have ever happened."

    The Legendary Berlnuda Triangle (百慕大三角): A Mystery No More

    For years, people have believed that an area of the Atlantic Ocean between Bermuda, Puerto Rico and Florida, USA was a dangerous place. They thought planes and boats passing through here were likely to disappear. By 1964, a writer had called the area the "'Bermuda Triangle". The name stuck, and so did the mystery.

    In 1945, five US Navy planes, called Flight 19 took off from Florida and never came back. After they disappeared into the Bermuda Triangle, different ideas had begun to spread that the area was a dangerous place. Even before this famous flight, several ships had disappeared in these waters. People had many different ideas about why this appended. Some people even believed that a huge octopus (章鱼) was responsible!

    However, scientists believe that weather is part of the problem. Unusually shaped clouds above the area create strong winds that go down into the water, creating huge tsunami (海啸) waves that can take down boats or low-flying planes. And many researchers believe that there's no mystery, at all Ship goes down and plane accidents happen all over the world. It just seems to happen more in the Bermuda Triangle because there's more traffic.

    The Bermuda Triangle is also one of the deepest areas of the Atlantic, with some areas being 8 km (5 mi.) deep. So, remains are hard to find which makes the disappearances seem even more mysterious. In 2011, the Flight 19 planes were found, showing that they didn't completely disappear. But no matter how much evidence（证据） there is that the Bermuda Triangle is no more dangerous than any other part of the ocean, many still believe that you mustn't go there.

    This summer, thousands of visitors are walking in through a garden in the sky. It is right in the middle of New York City. They are enjoying a beautiful, new park called the High Line, which was built on old railway tracks.

    After the railway was no longer used in 1980, wild plants, grass and trees began to grow between the tracks. A few people looked at this natural garden and saw something amazing. They worked to protect the area when others wanted to pull it down. Today, the High Line attracts up to 2 million visitors every year. This summer, the new part of the High Line started, almost doubling the park's size to one mile.

    The design of the park is special. The new part includes many activities for children. Young people can use building toys, including wood, wheels, ropes, gears and tools, to create one-of-a kind structures （构造）. The toys don't come with instructions. Instead, children use their imaginations to fashion houses, animals and machines.

    "Everyone supporting the High Line project wanted the park to go around the city," says Danya Sherman, director of public programs for the Friends of the High Line. The Friends of the High Line is the group that saved the railway from pulling down, Sherman believes that public spaces such as the High Line have the power to bring communities closer.

    The park also gives visitors a chance to experience nature in the city. The designers have allowed the park to keep the overgrown feeling that it had when it was an unused track. If you visit, you can see birds, butterflies and many plants that grow in the northeastern United States.

The Friends of the High Line hope to make the park even larger, over an area that is still used as a rail yard. The High Line has also inspired projects in other cities, including Philadelphia, Chicago, and Amsterdam, where people hope to build new parks on old railway tracks.

Power in the Path

    Have you ever taken a bike ride in the sun? It might make your ride a little  (更热), but a cycle path in a sunny area can be a good thing. In fact, in the Netherlands, one company decided to build a cycle path that can create energy using the sun.

    In the town of Krommenie, there's a cycle path of   (七十)  meters with solar panels (太阳能电池板) in it. These panels get light from the sun. They then use that light to produce electricity, which is used for street lights and so on. In its first year, enough energy can be    (提供) for one house for a whole year!

    Developers are still doing research. They make sure path is strong enough for buses and  (卡车) to drive over it. They must also make sure the path isn't too   (平滑的) because that could make people fall over  (容易地). This test path must be just right before this type of path can be built in other places.

    In  (另一个) Dutch town, Eindhoven, there is a cycle path that uses solar energy to make art. The path, which opened in 2014, is made up of thousands of tiny lights that get the light  (在......期间) the day and give off light at night. From above, these lights look like the famous painting The Starry Night by Dutch  (艺术家) Vincent van Gogh. This one-kilometer path is to honor Vincent van Gogh, who lived in this area from 1883 to 1885. It's a beautiful and creative way of using the power of the sun and the path now  (接待) many visitors.

    Scoring a goal is always worth celebrating. The Chinese striker (前锋) called Wu Lei scored his first goal in La Liga (西甲) on March 2. He is the first Chinese player  has scored in the top European league. Few other goals could be compared to it so that lots of Chinese fans celebrated it  (wide) — some of them even cried with joy.

    "I'm so excited! Several  (month) ago I was scoring in the Chinese Super League, but now I've scored in La Liga. It's  dream come true for me," Wu said after scoring.

    Wu is now a member of the Spanish club Espanyol. He joined the club the end of January. But in just his  (five) match on the field, he scored his first goal. The coach Rubi said Wu is like "a floating feather (飘着的羽毛) with great speed."

    Have you ever counted the number of digits (数字) in your mobile phone number? Your number has 11 digits. You may sometimes find it hard to remember your number. That's because China has the longest mobile phone numbers in the world. Why is that?

    The 11 digits can be divided into three parts. Each part has a different meaning. The first three numbers tell you which mobile phone service company it is. For example, 135 is for China Mobile Communications

    Corporation and 188 is for China Unicom. The fourth to the seventh digits tell you where the number is registered (注册). And the last four digits are random (随机的).

    The main reason for using 11 digits is that we have the largest population in the world. We once had 10 numbers. But as our population grew, there were not enough numbers for us to use. So we began to use 11 digits starting from 1999. Eleven digits can be used to make tens of billions of mobile phone numbers. That's enough for each person to have seven or eight phone numbers to use in China.

    And mobile phone numbers can be recycled. Usually, the service company will reuse a canceled number after three to six months. If you call a number that you haven't contacted for a long time, you may find that its owner has changed.

    Besides China, Britain and Japan also use 11-digit mobile phone numbers. But their numbers always start with 0. So they cannot create as many numbers as we can. Countries like the United States, Australia and India use phone numbers with 10 digits. Canada's mobile phone numbers are perhaps the shortest in the world: they use seven digits.
