A couple from Miami, Bill and Simone Butler, spent sixty-six days in a life-raft in the seas of Central America after their boat sank.
Twenty-one days after they left Panama in their boat, Simony, they met some whales. “They started to hit the side of the boat” said Bill, “and then suddenly we heard water.” Two minutes later, the boat was sinking. They jumped into the life-raft and watched the boat go under the water.
For twenty days they had tins of food, biscuits and bottles of water. They also had a fishing-line and a machine to make salt water into drinking water—two things which saved their lives. They caught eight to ten fish a day and ate them raw(生的). Then the line broke. “So we had no more fish until something very strange happened. Some sharks came to feed, and the fish under the raft were afraid and came to the surface. I caught them with my hands.”
About twenty ships passed them, but no one saw them. After fifty days at sea their life-raft was beginning to break up. Then suddenly it was all over. A fishing boat saw them and picked them up. They couldn't stand up. So the captain carried them onto his boat and took them to Costa Rica. Their two months at sea was over.
There are many reasons why I encourage people to travel, and I know that the experience will make one a better person.
I remember when I was travelling I began to know the world better. The world is not just about me, my small town and home. Although you will meet different people from all over the world, you will realize that people are similar in their dreams, hopes and feelings. Enjoy exploring the different cultures, and you will also find that people are different in some of the things they do and how they live. Once you understand their ways, it need not be strange or scary. Often we read stories about other cultures in books. Only when we visit their areas do we find that those stories are something wrong.
One thing you may find out is that there are problems all over the world. We can't just get money to send to these areas and hope that will work them out. The world should get involved(干预)and help wherever there are problems. People everywhere should be given a chance. It is so easy to ignore this if one does not travel and explore. One can look around and see that so many people have many challenges worse than ours. One can realize that sometimes our biggest problems are not that big after all.
On your journey you will meet lots of new friends. Talking to strangers and finding about their lives is a great way to spend your time. you will certainly be more confident after having to cope with problems and make many decisions along the way.
When you travel, you have to be on your own in some situations. You will surprise yourself by how well you can do that. All your special experiences could make an interesting book to read. It would be filled with all your adventures and special memories.
Traveling around and seeing so much happening in the world around us is a wonderful experience. If we could all just travel a little more and share our experiences, we would all be better people and the world would be a better place.
While both Europe and the United States of America are considered the Western world, it's good to know there are some differences in culture. If you are considering moving to a European country, you will find the information below helpful as you plan your move.
One cultural difference is how the countries perceive(感知)time and space. For example, a house in the United States that is 200 years old would be considered ancient. This is probably because America is a fairly young country. However, in Europe, something would not be considered ancient unless it was at least 2,000 years old. However, perception of distance seems to be the opposite. While Europeans would consider 100 kilometers a long way to drive, Americans would think twice. This could be due to the fact that Europe is smaller and more heavily populated. In fact, the United States is over twice the size of Europe.
Cars are another factor that differs greatly between Europe and the United States. American automobiles usually have automatic transmissions(传动)while European cars generally have manual gears(手动变速器). European automobiles are smaller and more round-shaped, while American cars are larger and more square-shaped. Trucks and limousine are vehicles that American enjoy. In Europe, however, these types of vehicles are hardly seen, as they prefer smaller cars due to parking and traffic congestion.
The view of education is another cultural difference between the European countries and the United States. In America, parents may save for many years and even go into debt to pay for their children to attend college. Most schools and universities in Europe, however, are free of tuition. In fact, it is just expected for children to attend college there and not a privilege(特权), as in the United States.
Once a child reaches their teenage years, many parents may think it is too late to help them change a negative attitude. This is not the case, and while it may take longer, it is possible to help your child develop a positive attitude. Having a positive attitude is important to a teenager's happiness and success.
Judge your own attitude. . Teens watch their parents and how they react to certain experiences and events. Children learn a good part of their belief system from their parents. Therefore, a parent's attitude and a loving home environment are important to help develop positive attitudes in teens
. This is the little voice in our heads which we use to communicate with ourselves. Positive self-talk will have a direct influence on how positive a person's attitude and actions are. Tell your teen instead of using negative statements, replace them with positive ones. For example, “I can do this right. I just need to concentrate” is much better than “I failed again. I never do anything right.” If you promote positive self-talk you should notice a clear change in the teenager's attitude.
Teach your teen to aim high, while showing her how to acknowledge her limitations.
. If your teen wants to achieve the impossible, this will only make her feel negative when she fails to do it. Unrealistic expectations are one of the biggest causes of negative attitudes in children, says the Kids Health website.
Try to praise your teenager when he deserves it. Show him you value him and recognize when he makes positive choices. . Be sure to give credit when credit is due. Your teen's attitude will be much more positive if you also show him respect as well as command it from him.
A. Teach them how to self-talk.
B. A child's attitude is a learned behavior.
C. Avoid unkind blames to affect your teen's attitude.
D. A negative attitude can result in them feeling upset.
E. There is no problem having reasonable dreams.
.F. Most teenagers will appreciate their parent's praise.
G. Encourage him to take up new hobbies or interests.
My holiday was about two months long and the first thing I wanted to do was to get my driving license, so I called the driving school to make sure of my 1 time, after that, I booked a room to make sure my friend and I have a place to stay when we 2 there.
So everything went on well 3the test-day finally arrive! I'm both excited and 4. I took the school bus and when I got there I went to the 5 first. Something happened when I came out of the restroom. I 6 over and broke my right foot.
OMG! I didn't know what to do so I called my mom and she 7 me up and we went to the hospital at once. 8 the doctor said, “It is fine. You didn't hurt the9, but it will take almost two months to recover.” That was disappointing, and I was totally 10.
Through those painful days I had nothing to do but 11 the Internet and read books about some disabled persons who are not 12 by their physical problems. These books would help me 13 sooner. It was so amazing! After reading the books my 14 seemed to become better and better, day after day! And I began to feel better 15 myself and about my foot I started to use the 16 “thank you” more often than before and most importantly, I started to think 17.
Things do change when your18 changes. I soon recovered and could walk again. After coming back from my trip, I went to 19 my driving test, and it went very well. I 20 it without any difficulties. I'm a driver now!
One day, I took my daughter to the park. As soon as we got there, my daughter (run) to the swing(秋千)and asked for a push. When I was helping my daughter, I noticed another girl trying to make her own swing(go) high by herself. Her old grandmother was sitting on the chair nearby and smiling at us. Happily, my daughter (push) higher and higher by me.
Then I walked towards the little girl. I asked I could give a big push to her. She smiled and said “Yes”. For the next hour, I pushed the swings, and played my daughter and the little girl. When we went home, I was tired very happy.
One day two years(late), after a day's work, I went to pick up my daughter before going home. While I was waiting outside the school gate, a little girl smiled (sweet) at me and gave me a big hug. As I watched her run away, I realized that she was the girl whom I gave a big push in the park.
So far, I couldn't forget her sweet smile and the warm hug that she gave me. In fact, if we give love to others, love will find its way back to us. It may travel heart to heart or it may blossom(开花)in the heart. The love we share, the (kind) we give, and the happiness we create will come back to us with a pleasant surprise.

Dear Tom,
How are you? I am just writing to tell you I had wonderful time at your place in New York
I arrived at home, safe and sound. I have anything to ask you. I have been looking through my bags for my favorite red shirt, or I can't find it anywhere. I'm surely I must have left it at your place. Could you look around your house for it?
By the way, I am planning Mom and Dad's wedding anniversary celebration. I had already invited you and your parent. I wonder whether you would like to come to Chicago this time. How do you think of it?
Take care of you and write to me soon. Giving my regards to Uncle Bernard and Aunt Norah.
Love,
Diana
