Halloween（万圣节）is a {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（奇怪的）holiday. It started {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（几个的）centuries ago in Europe. It began as "Hallow Evening" which {#blank#}3{#/blank#}（意思是）"holy night". At that time November 1st was called "All Saints' Day" and people honored all the saints who did not have their own {#blank#}4{#/blank#}（特别的）day. People{#blank#}5{#/blank#}（相信）that all the spirits of dead people were active on the night of October 31st. So people would play all kinds of tricks（恶作剧）on each other.

    Black is one of the traditional Halloween colors, {#blank#}6{#/blank#}（可能地）because Halloween festivals and traditions took place at night. Pumpkins（南瓜）are a symbol（象征）of Halloween, so orange has {#blank#}7{#/blank#}（成为）the other traditional Halloween color. Making lanterns out of pumpkins is a Halloween custom.

    Halloween is great fun for children. They {#blank#}8{#/blank#}（穿衣）up as ghosts（鬼）or witches（女巫）. Small children go "Trick-or-Treating". They wear costumes, knock on door, and shout, "Trick or Treat！"People almost always choose to give them candy as a treat, {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（而不是）of choosing to receive a trick from the children. {#blank#}10{#/blank#}（成人）sometimes "trick or treat" their friends, too. Usually the "treat" is a glass of wine or some small gifts.
