I was on my way to the Taiyetos Mountains. The sun was setting when my car {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (break) down near a remote and poor village. Cursing my misfortune, I was wondering where I was going to spend the night when I realized that the villagers who had gathered around me were arguing as to {#blank#}2{#/blank#} should have the honor of receiving me {#blank#}3{#/blank#} a guest in their house. Finally, I accepted the offer of an old woman who lived alone in a little house. While she was getting me {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (settle) into a tiny but clean room, the head of the village was tying up his horse to my car to pull it to {#blank#}5{#/blank#} small town some 20 kilometres away {#blank#}6{#/blank#} there was a garage.

    I had noticed three hens running free in my hostess's courtyard and that night one of them ended up in a dish on my table. {#blank#}7{#/blank#} villagers brought me goat's cheese and honey. We drank together and talked {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (merry) till far into the night.

    When the time came for me to say goodbye to my friends in the village, I wanted to reward the old woman {#blank#}9{#/blank#} the trouble I had caused {#blank#}10{#/blank#}.

    Last Monday, my father would be on a{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(busy) trip for five days. Having gotten my promise of being great at home and taking care of my mother, he rest assured and put his luggage into the trunk of his car.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(see) my father's driving away, my mother and I waved our hands and said goodbye to him. For a moment, I began to miss my father,{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(wish) that he would be safe and well the next days. I thought everything would go well, as this was not the first time that my father{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(be) away for several days. Yet, —{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(fortunate), my mother caught a cold the next morning. Looking at her pale face, I {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(experience) high levels of anxiety. However, I told myself that I had to calm down and look after my mum, {#blank#}7{#/blank#}I promised to my dad. The moment I got my mum to sleep, I put cold towel on her forehead, found pills in the medicine box, and made some noodles for her. Luckily, she woke up and felt {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(good) after taking the pills and the noodles. {#blank#}9{#/blank#}her fever was gone relieved and satisfied me a lot. In the next four days, I was taking her body temperature twice a day, ensuring that she was completely well. To our delight, my dad went back home safe and sound on Saturday. On hearing {#blank#}10{#/blank#}I had done to my mum, he as well as my mum beamed at me and gave me a big thumb. Hearing their praises and seeing bright smiles on their faces, I really felt overjoyed and thrilled. Taking care of my parents was, indeed and definitely, my mission and obligation。

    For some US college students, a break from school is a time to volunteer {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (help) communities in need. They take part in activities {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (organize) by school to do voluntary work.

    This spring break, I had the opportunity to go on one of these trips, and it was the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (good) week of my entire life. I went with twelve other students and two adults down to Rocky Mount, North Carolina in the US. We worked on three houses, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (build) roofs, painting, and decorating.

    It was very rewarding to see how much we {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (appreciate) by the people living in that town. Every time we went out somewhere for dinner, people came up to us to express {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (they) appreciation. This made us foul really good and {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (encourage) us to get more done each day.

    The trip wasn't all about work, however. We had {#blank#}8{#/blank#} amazing group of people who enjoyed one another's company, Wu created our own fun, {#blank#}9{#/blank#} helped us get to know each other well. At the end of the trip, I came home {#blank#}10{#/blank#} not only a great sense of success but also fourteen really good new friends.

    Nelson Mandela was a great fighter. In his early days, he was a {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (law) and set up a law office,{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (offer) help to poor black people. Elias was {#blank#}3{#/blank#} of them. After he found a job in Johannesburg, he became worried about being out of work, for he didn't have a passbook. Mandela helped him get the correct papers,{#blank#}4{#/blank#} made him become {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (hope) about the future.{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (unfortunate), the office was closed by the government. Later, he became a leader of ANC Youth League. They attacked the anti-black laws. In 1963, ANC began to blow {#blank#}7{#/blank#} buildings because the peaceful way was not allowed. Nelson Mandela, this brave and {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (determine) man, devoted all his life to {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (help) the black to achieve equality. In 1993, he {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (give) the Nobel Peace Prize for his great contributions.
