The Hotel Whale

  The Hotel Whale is built (A) 在水下. It is in the shape of a whale. This hotel has 50 bedrooms, a cafe and a shopping centre.

Mrs Peng: “When we were staying at the hotel recently, my children watched the fish outside their bedroom window. (B) They were never bored.”

Forever Green Houses

These houses are both “green” and “smart”. There is glass outside the houses. Heat is held under the glass and is then used as energy for (C) each house. In the bathroom, your medicine cupboard is connected to your doctor's computer. In the kitchen, your smart fridge tells the supermarket's computer when you (D) need more food.

Mr Yu: “When we were living in our old house, we were using more energy. I would certainly recommend Forever Green Houses to my friends. (E) They will satisfy everyone.”

    Today is Saturday．It's also the Teachers' Day, Lily and Tom's mother's festival．They get up early in the morning and want to help their mother do the housework．They first clean the room and then wash the clothes．And then they make breakfast for their mother Lisa．

    It takes Lily and Tom a long time to make the breakfast．They make a chicken hamburger and some salad．These are Lisa's favourite food．They also prepare(准备) a glass of milk．They think it's healthy for their mother．Then they go to their parents' room with the food and drink.

    Dad sits on the sofa and reads a newspaper to Lisa．There is much interesting news(新闻) in it．Lisa also thinks it is fun．They seem very happy．“Good morning, Mum and Dad,” say Lily and Tom．Then they walk to their mother and say: “Mum, Happy Teachers' Day!”

Lisa looks at the children and the breakfast．“Thank you so much!” Lisa feels very warm now.

D. Say sorry to him first. And try to repair it. Or you may give him your favorite toy car instead. Or to buy a new one for him.

E. A person's look or appearance(外表)doesn't mean everything. The most important thing is to study hard and have a good future.

    TapeMeasure Murder is a short story by Agatha Christie. In the story, Miss Politt, the dressmaker, finds that Mrs. Spenlow is dead in her house in a small village called St Mary Mead. Everybody, including the police, thinks that Mr. Spenlow is the murderer(凶手) because he is so calm and quiet after discovering his wife's death. But after the police talk to Miss Marple, she finds out the real murderer.

    The best part of the story is when Miss Marple explains how she solves the mystery(疑案) by noticing a tiny pin(别针) on a policeman's uniform. Her explanation is very clear and clever. Miss Marple is my favorite character in the story. I think she is very special because she is just an old lady but she is even smarter than the policemen. I never thought that an old lady could be the main character of a detective story!

    Can you guess who the murderer is? Read the book to find out! You will enjoy the story very much because the ending is so surprising.

    We usually use chopsticks and spoons: Americans usually use forks and knives. However, the people in some countries don't use any of these tools. They prefer to eat with their fingers. It sounds messy, but they have ways to keep clean.

    In the southern part of India, people use banana leaves to eat. Everyone gets a small square of banana leaf. Each person washes his or her square of leaf, and then uses it to eat.

    In Ethiopia, food is wrapped in a special kind of bread. This bread is very flat and feels like a wet sponge(海绵). There are lots of holes in the bread to hold food and sauce. A small piece is torn of(被撕下) to pick up food.

    In the Middle East, people eat with only their fingers on the right, hand. They always try to keep the right hand clean. The left hand is used for touching dirty things.
