    A ten-year-old girl raised over 30, 000 pounds for a children's hospice in just eight months. What she did was to play her violin to the people who passed by in the street.

    Madison Glinski from the U. K. made a New Year's resolution to help poor children last year. She planned to try and raise 500 pounds for a local children's hospice before Christmas. Every day after school, Madison played the violin in front of a coffee shop. She played so well that many people stopped to enjoy her performance. People liked her idea of helping children in need so they were willing to give her money. Since she began playing the violin in the street at Easter, she had raised a surprising 32, 520 pounds by the end of the year. She also raised money by selling her own toys.

Madison's mother supported her daughter's idea. She said. “Madison has a musical talent. She has played the violin since the age of four. I am glad that she has used it to help others. She has a special interest for it.”

It is not the first time for Madison to help others. A few years ago, Madison asked her parents if they could all go to Africa at Christmas to help the children there. She collected toys, shoes, school things and clothes from her friends and neighbors to take to Africa. They had a special Christmas win the children in Africa. As soon as the family returned, Madison started to plan for the next trip.

    “As long as there are homeless kids. I will never stop helping them,” Madison says.

     Dick lived in England.     One afternoon, four black youths walked into a restaurant that served “whites” only. They sat down and ordered bread and milk. The white waiter just said “We don't serve blacks”. The young men did not move. They were tired to death of segregation（种族分离） and of being kicked around. The manager was called. When he saw the angry look in their eyes, he said that he was sorry, but it was not possible to serve them.

    The next day, more young black people came, and even more came the day after to the restaurant. Then a gang of white youths came in and attacked them.     The news spread quickly through the black living areas in the city. A large crowd held a meeting round the restaurant the following day, forcing(迫使) the restaurant to shut. Young men, black and white, made speeches protesting against segregation and pointing out that black people only wanted to live a life in the same way that whites did. They gave out leaflets and soon the movement spread to other cities. Business became so bad at that particular restaurant that the owners were forced to give and served blacks.

    Nowadays, all the blacks are served in all restaurants open to the public in America.

    Henry is nine years old. It is half a kilometer from his home to school, so he goes to school on foot every day. He usually gets home at five in the afternoon.

    It was Thursday, and he came home one hour late. When he came home, his mother asked him, “Why are you late, Henry?”

    “My math teacher Mr. Smith is very angry (生气的）with me and asks you to go to his office tomorrow.”
