    People around me always told me that I could dance, because it was a girl's sport.

    But I never gave up my 1 of becoming a dancing star. I practiced secretly, learning from books, movies, and shows. However, without my parents support, it seemed impossible to reach.

    One summer, my little sister Maggie was going to dance lessons.I immediately asked my parents for permission to take her to the lessons. What a 2 chance to learn dancing!

    In the following months, we practiced every evening, hiding from my parents. I was having a fantastic time and soon Maggie improved a lot.

    Finally came the big day. I became 4 when I heard my parents would come to watch the performance. As the music began, I took a deep breath and tried to calm down. We moved 5, shining with pride. From the cheering of the crowd, I was sure we were successful.

    When my daughter, Sophie, was admitted to a college we were very happy, but a little worried about becoming empty nesters(空巢老人). I knew I had to do something, starting with the summer before she was away from home.

    Sophie had a pack of colourful blouses. I knew she wouldn't wear them anymore, so I decided to make a quilt(被子) out of them. I tried to work on the quilt when Sophie 1 – which turned out to be often. She was very busy with her friends. Even when she was at home, her door was shut more than usual. This made me feel a bit hurt.2 we didn't have much time together before she went to college.

When we arrived at the college, a wave of emotion flooded me. Sophie saw it in my face. She took a beautiful 3 from her bag. "I made this for you, Mom," she said. Run for Class President

    Two months ago, when our class election (选举) started, I decided to run for class president. I enjoyed speaking in public and got along well with people, so I felt it easy to win. But I was 1 that people would feel bad for me if I lost.

    I was busy preparing in the following week. My plan wasn't to make promises to do things I couldn't 2 but to show my class why I wanted to be president. I put up my posters in hallways and in the classroom. I also spent three hours writing my speech, saying that I was the one they could turn to whenever they had a problem. Since I was 3 prepared, I felt that my chances of winning were strong.

    However, when I gave my speech on Election Day, the response (反应) wasn't what I had 4. Few people actually listened. When it was my opponent's (对手的) turn, everyone was screaming his name. His speech was short, but all to the point. By then, I realized I should have made mine shorter and clearer.

    It was obvious who would 5. For the rest of the day, I felt like it was over. I wanted to just go home and cry, but I made it through.
