Last Friday, my friend David called me and invited me and our friend Tom to a party in his university. Tom and I are in{#blank#}1{#/blank#} same class. We both wanted to go to the party, but there was a problem—we'd have a final exam on the {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (come) Monday.

    “Don't worry. We can come back on Sunday and won't miss the exam,” really{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (want) to go to the party, Tom said. So I decided to go{#blank#}4{#/blank#} him.

      The party was great and we{#blank#}5{#/blank#}  (true) enjoyed ourselves there. However, we stayed up late on Saturday night and slept all day on Sunday and didn't make it back to our university until Monday morning. We missed the exam. Then we went to our professor's office and explained{#blank#}6{#/blank#} we missed the exam. We lied that there was a flat tire（车胎漏气）on our way back to the university. Our professor {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (agree) that we could take the exam the following day.

    When it was time to take the exam, Tom and I{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (take )to different rooms. After we opened the test paper, we saw only one question, “Which tire?”

    Neither Tom nor I answered the question. Instead we told our professor the truth. Luckily, he later gave{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (we) the real test paper . And both Tom and I made a{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (decide): never to lie again.

    Born on June 12, 1929, Anne Frank was a German-Jewish teenager {#blank#}1{#/blank#}was forced to go into hiding during the Holocaust (大屠杀). She and her family, along with four others,{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(spend ) over two years during World War Ⅱ{#blank#}3{#/blank#}( hide) in another part of rooms above her father's office in Amsterdam.

    Since it was first published in 1947 , Anne Frank's diary has become one of the{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(powerful) memoirs（回忆录）of the Holocaust.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}( it) message of courage and hope in the face of difficulty has reached millions. The diary has been translated into more than 60 languages with over 30 million copies{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(sell). Anne Frank's story is especially{#blank#}7{#/blank#}( meaning) to young people today. For many she is their first exposure(接触) to the history of the Holocaust.

    After being reported to the Nazis, Anne, her  family, and {#blank#}8{#/blank#}others living with them were arrested (逮捕) and sent to Nazi concentration camps. In March of 1945, several{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(month) after she was arrested, Anne Frank died. She was fifteen years old.

    Her courage and legacy live on, and she is frequently regarded {#blank#}10{#/blank#}a role model for today.

    There once was a forest filled with happy animals. One day a raccoon(浣熊) found some socks left behind by picnickers, and {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (decide) to wear them. They fitted so well, and felt so {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (comfort), that he kept them on. He spent his days {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (walk) through the forest in his new socks.

    Other animals became envious of the raccoon's new look and followed his trend. First it was squirrels in {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (shirt), then rabbits {#blank#}5{#/blank#} hats on, and finally birds wearing underpants!

    Doctor Bear,{#blank#}6{#/blank#} forest physician, disapproved and tried to warn the clothes-wearers. But no one listened. Instead, they urged him to follow the {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (late) trend too.

    Soon, the problems started. The squirrel caught his shirt on a branch and crashed to the ground. The rabbit tried entering his hole while wearing his hat and got stuck. Even the raccoon, thanks to his {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (bright) coloured socks, slipped into the river and almost died.

    When the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (injure) animals came to see Doctor Bear, he told them,“Your clothes are killing you. You don't need them.”

    Those {#blank#}10{#/blank#} listened to the doctor's advice finally understood they didn't need clothes. They'd only started wearing clothes to make others envy them.

    I won't call myself the most accomplished person when it comes to {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (hold) chopsticks. In fact, I'm pretty sure that my technique looks clumsy at times. I tend to hold {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (I) in the middle, more beginner than expert.

    Still, since I eat almost every meal with the eating utensil(器皿)of choice in China it's not uncommon for a new friend or acquaintance to come to a simple {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (conclude) after observing me that my Chinese husband, Jun, must {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (show) me how to use them.

    They are wrong. I've used chopsticks ever since I was a teenager, a time when my sister and mother were both fond of Chinese cuisine and introduced me {#blank#}5{#/blank#} many new dishes, along with the {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (prefer) utensils in China. We always kept bamboo chopsticks along with our {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (knife), forks and spoons, ready for whenever we happened to have Chinese food for dinner. It was my closest family {#blank#}8{#/blank#} observed my first mistakes I made in using chopsticks.

    Plus, I lived over two years in China before Jun and I started dating and I {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (expect) to use chopsticks in almost every restaurant, stand and bar. Trust me, when you're hungry you figure out pretty fast what it takes to down(咽下) {#blank#}10{#/blank#} meal with these utensils.
