Last Friday, my friend David called me and invited me and our friend Tom to a party in his university. Tom and I are in{#blank#}1{#/blank#} same class. We both wanted to go to the party, but there was a problem—we'd have a final exam on the {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (come) Monday.

    “Don't worry. We can come back on Sunday and won't miss the exam,” really{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (want) to go to the party, Tom said. So I decided to go{#blank#}4{#/blank#} him.

      The party was great and we{#blank#}5{#/blank#}  (true) enjoyed ourselves there. However, we stayed up late on Saturday night and slept all day on Sunday and didn't make it back to our university until Monday morning. We missed the exam. Then we went to our professor's office and explained{#blank#}6{#/blank#} we missed the exam. We lied that there was a flat tire（车胎漏气）on our way back to the university. Our professor {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (agree) that we could take the exam the following day.

    When it was time to take the exam, Tom and I{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (take )to different rooms. After we opened the test paper, we saw only one question, “Which tire?”

    Neither Tom nor I answered the question. Instead we told our professor the truth. Luckily, he later gave{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (we) the real test paper . And both Tom and I made a{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (decide): never to lie again.

    This is a true story which happened in the States. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} man came out of his home to admire his new truck. To his puzzlement, his three-year-old son was {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (happy) hammering dents(凹痕) into the shiny paint of the truck. The man ran to his son, knocked him away, hammered the little boy's hands into pulp(果浆汁) as {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (punish). When the father calmed down, he rushed his son to the hospital.

  Although the doctor tried desperately to save the crushed bones, he finally had to cut the fingers from both the boy's hands. When the boy {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (wake) up from the operation and saw his bandaged stubs, he innocently said, “Daddy, I'm sorry about your truck,{#blank#}5{#/blank#} when are my fingers going to grow back?”

The father went home and committed suicide.

Think about this story the next time someone steps on your {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(foot) or you wish to take revenge(报复). Think first {#blank#}7{#/blank#} you lose your patience with someone you love. Trucks can be repaired, but {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(break) bones and hurt feelings often can't. Too often we fail to recognize the difference between the person and the performance. We forget that forgiveness is {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(great) than revenge.

People make mistakes. We {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (allow) to make mistakes. But the actions we take while in a rage will impress us forever.

    About six years ago I was having lunch in New York City{#blank#}1{#/blank#}a woman and a young boy sat down at the next table.I couldn't help{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(overhear) parts of their conversation.At one point the woman asked,"So,how have you been?"And the boy who could not have been more than seven or eight years old replied."{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (frank),I've been feeling a little depressed lately."

    This incident{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(impress) me most because it confirmed my growing{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(believe) that children are changing. As far as I can remember,my friends and I didn't find out we were "depressed"{#blank#}6{#/blank#}we were in high school.

    Undoubtedly,{#blank#}7{#/blank#}change in children has increased steadily in recent years.Children don't seem childlike any more.Children speak,dress and behave more like adults{#blank#}8{#/blank#}they used to.

    {#blank#}9{#/blank#}this is good or bad is difficult to say,but it certainly is different.Childhood as it once was no longer{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (exist).
