Winter is cold in some places. Many plants do not grow during the winter. Some plants even die. Snow and ice may cover the ground, it can be hard for animals to find food during the winter. Animals get through the time many ways.
Birds and butterflies can fly. Many of them leave (they) homes for somewhere warm. Then they come home next spring. We call this migration, which is good way to avoid the cold.
Another good way to avoid the cold is (sleep) through it. Many animals hide and sleep during the winter. They slow down and use very little energy. They do not eat and they live off their fat (脂肪). They do this until food (return). We call this hibernation. Snakes, frogs and bears hibernate.
Some animals store food in their homes. They live on they stored in the summer and fall. This is what squirrels do.
Other (animal) tough it out (挺过去). They neither leave hide. Some of them grow (thick) coats in the winter than other time. Some of them change colour. The Arctic fox is brown in the summer and White in the winter.
