Swedish businessman Nile Bergqvist is delighted with his new hotel, the world's first igloo(冰屋) hotel.

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(build) in a small town, it has been attracting lots of visitors but soon the fun will be over. In two weeks' time Bergqvist's ice creation {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(be) nothing more than a pool of water. “ We don't see it as a big problem,” he says. “ We just look forward to replacing it.”

    Bergqvist built his first igloo in 1991 for an art exhibition. It was {#blank#}3{#/blank#}successful that he designed the present one,{#blank#}4{#/blank#} measures roughly 200 square meters. Six workmen spent more than eight weeks {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(put)1, 000 tons of snow onto a wooden base；when the snow froze, the base {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(remove).

After their stay, all visitors receive {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(congratulate) and a survival certificate recording their success.{#blank#}8{#/blank#} no windows, nowhere to hang clothes and temperatures below 0℃, it may seem more like a survival test {#blank#}9{#/blank#}a relaxing hotel break. “It's great fun,” Bergqvist explains, “As well as a good start in survival training.”

    The popularity of the igloo is beyond doubt：it is now attracting tourists from all over the world. At least 800 people have stayed at the igloo this season even {#blank#}10{#/blank#} there are only 10 rooms.

    A rainforest is an area{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(cover) by tall trees with the total high rainfall spreading quite equally through the year. Rainforests have a great effect on the world environment because they can take in heat from the sun and adjust the climate.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}the forest cover, these areas would reflect more heat into the atmosphere,{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (warm) the rest of the world. Losing the rainforests may also influence wind and rainfall patterns, potentially causing certain natural disasters all over the world.

    In the past hundred years, humans {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(begin) destroying rainforests in search of three major resources: land for crops, wood for paper and other products, land for raising farm {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (animal). This action affects the environment as a whole. For example, a lot of carbon dioxide in the air comes from burning the rainforests. People{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(obvious) have a need for the resources we gain from cutting trees,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} we will suffer much more than we will benefit.

    Rainforests are often called the world's drug store. More than 25% of the medicines we use today come from plants in rainforests. However, fewer than 1% of rainforest plants have been examined for their {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(medicine) value. It is extremely likely {#blank#}9{#/blank#}our best chance to cure diseases {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(lie) somewhere in the world's shrinking rainforests.

    Nowadays, English is widely spoken all over the world. Actually, English has changed and developed {#blank#}1{#/blank#} time. At first, the English {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(speak) in England between AD 450 and 1150 was quite different from the English spoken today, which was based more {#blank#}3{#/blank#} German than English we speak now. Then gradually between about AD 800 and 1150, English became less like German because those {#blank#}4{#/blank#} ruled England spoke first Danish and later French. These new {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(settle) enriched English and especially its vocabulary. So by the 1600's Shakespeare used a {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(wide) vocabulary than ever before. In 1620 some British settlers moved to America, later they moved to Australia too. English began {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(speak) in both countries. Finally, the language was settled by the 19th century. English now is spoken {#blank#}8{#/blank#} a foreign or second language in India, Singapore, Malaysia and so on. Today the number of people learning English in China {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(be) increasing rapidly. Will Chinese English develop {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(it) own identity? Only time will tell.
