One of the greatest mysteries on Earth is the statues which stand on Easter Island. Easter Island, which was almost uninhabited when it was discovered on Easter Day in 1722 by a Dutch captain, is the most distant island in the world covered with hundreds of giant statues, each weighing several tons and some standing more than 30 feet tall.
    Who built these statues and why and how did they get there? Nobody knows the answer for sure.
    One theory suggests that Easter Island was first inhabited by Polynesians, who traveled thousands of miles in their canoes（独木舟）in 400 A.D. However, the ocean currents（洋流）which carried them there would not take them back, so that they could not leave.
    The statues appear to have been made out of the top edge of the walls of a volcano on the island. Then, it may have been rolled or dragged down to the foot of the volcano(火山). Then, it was stood upright（直立）and ropes were tied around it, which was made to act as a pulley（滑轮）. Over a period of months, a statue could be walked for miles down to the ocean. Finally, it was placed in line with other statues, all of them looking towards the center of the island.
    This process was difficult. If a statue fell over, it was too heavy to be pulled upright again, so the islanders went back and carved another statue.
    The population of Easter Island must have reached 11,000. Later, the resources of the island were used up and people began fighting and eating each other. Work on the statues stopped and the statues were knocked over. When the first Europeans finally arrived on the island, most of these people had died out.

One bag, that's it.

The importance of packing light cannot be overemphasized(过度强调). Limit yourself to 20 pounds in a carry-on bag. A 9'× 22' ×14' bag fits under most airplane seats. And after you enjoy that sweet mobility and freedom, you'll never go any other way.
You'll walk with your luggage(行李) more than you think you will. Before leaving home, give yourself a test. Pack up completely, and practice being a tourist for an hour. Fully loaded, you should enjoy window-shopping. If you can't, go home and thin things out.
Packing light isn't just about the trip over and back—it's about your traveling lifestyle. Too much luggage marks you as a typical tourist. It slams the back door shut. Changing locations becomes an important operation. With only one bag, you're mobile and in control. Take this piece of advice seriously. Pack light, and pack smart. These days, you can't bring anything possibly dangerous—such as knives, lighters or large amounts of liquid (液体)—in your bag.
What to bring?
How do you fit a whole trip's worth of luggage into a small backpack or suitcase(衣箱)? The answer is simple: bring very little.
Bring out everything you think you might need on the floor. Pick up one item(件) at a time and check it. Ask yourself—not "Will I use it?", but—"Will I use it enough to feel good about carrying it all the way? The world is getting really small—you can buy Colgate toothpaste, Nivea cream and Gillette razors in almost every country.
Think about what you can do without—not what will be convenient on your trip. When in doubt, leave it out.

    One day an American called Simon went to London to visit his friend, Rick. Rick told him that his flat was on the first floor. When he arrived, Simon went straight to the first floor of the building. But he was told that there was no Rick on that floor. Do you know why?

    In fact, the British call the first floor of a building the ground floor. The floor above the ground floor is the first floor, while Americans would call it the second floor.

    The story shows that there are a few culture differences between Britain and America, though the British and Americans both speak English.

    The British usually hide their feelings. They seldom start a conversation with strangers. For example, on the train the British often spend their time reading newspapers or books. But Americans are quite different. They're more active and easier to talk with.

    The British and Americans may use different terms for many things. The British usually use “football”, “eraser” and “mail” while Americans prefer to use “soccer”, “rubber” and “post”.

    The Spring Festival was on February 7th this year. Because Spring Festival is the most important festival in China, so my parents cleaned and decorated(装饰)our house with me before spring festival. We also bought lots of things in the supermarket.

    On the eve 'of the Spring Festival, we had a big dinner. After dinner, I put on my new clothes, then my father, my mother and I went to the Flower Fairs. Wow! There were lots of kinds of flowers in the Flower Fairs, they were lilies, tulips, peach flowers..., how colorful and beautiful they were! So we took some photos here. We bought some flowers, then we went home happily: We watched TV until midnight. At twelve o'clock, we cheered to welcome the new year and wished each other good luck.

    During Spring Festival I got lots of lucky money, so my favorite festival is Spring Festival. I hope every day is Spring Festival.
