This is my first time in Japan. One day some new colleagues invited me to eat out. At first, I felt quite pleased and learnt to use chopsticks with them, but later the problems started.

My cold was not quite finished and my nose was still running a little so I took out a tissue (纸巾)，turned away from the table and blew my nose(抠鼻涕). My colleagues, who were talking

about how to arrange (安排) the final exams of pupils, were looking at me strangely. They explained to me that in Japan, people don't blow their noses in public especially at the table.

When I was trying to stick my chopsticks in my bowl of rice, one of my colleagues said, “Don't do that. Just leave them on the table.” Later, I found that leaving your chopsticks in your rice means death in Japanese culture!

The next time I needed to blow my nose, I left the table and went to the toilet. When I returned, it was nearly time to leave. I noticed there were some little bowls of tea with lemon next to everybody's place on the table. It was hot, and I started drinking it before it got cold. Then I noticed some of my friends were covering their mouths and looking at each other. They were trying not to laugh. “What's wrong?” I asked the friend next to me. “That's not for drinking,” he explained. “It's for washing your fingers.” For a moment, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

    You might be surprised to learn that India produces about 800 movies a year, and that number continues to grow. Just as the center of the American film industry is Hollywood, the movie center of India is Mumbai, known 1 Bombay. “Bollywood” is a combination (结合) of the 2 “Bombay” and “Hollywood”.

    Bollywood is not a physical place. Some people 3 the name, saying that it makes the industry look like a poor cousin to Hollywood. 4, Bollywood is one of the largest centers of film production in the world.

    No Bollywood movie is thought complete 5 a few songs and dances. In fact, music is an important part of Bollywood movies. Even a bad movie can still be 6 if the music is good. Because of this, music directors are sometimes more popular than actors. A Bollywood movie has five to six songs in it, often explaining what the dances mean.     Bollywood may be different from Hollywood when it comes to musical style, but it is very 9 to Hollywood in several ways. Bollywood hero Shark Khan uses a gun just like Hollywood star Tom Cruise. News reporters follow Bollywood stars just as often as Hollywood stars. The personal lives of Indian actors and actresses catch the headlines, just as 10 do in the United States.

    At midnight at New Year's Eve people in Rome and Italy throw (扔) all the things they no longer want .The streets are filled with old chairs, beds, clothes and dishes…… In Madrid, Spain, new year comes in more quietly (安静地). People go to the main square, each holding a bag of grapes. As the clock strikes (敲) twelve ,the people eat grapes .

    In Tokyo people eat noodles at New Year's Eve. This food is said to bring long life. Early the next morning, some Japanese families climb Mount Fuji. There they watch the first sunrise (日出) of the new year.

    In China, New Year's food include (包括) a whole fish and a chicken. The chicken must be presented (呈现) with a head ,a tail and two feet to symbolize (象征) completeness (完美).

    English ─ speaking people say many “thank you” every day. Early in the morning when a teacher  asks a student，“Good morning. How are you?”,  his answer should be.“ I'm fine, thank you. And you?" This is the first "thank you" of a day.

    When you hear “Your skirt is nice.” you say, “Thank you. I'm happy you like it.” At your birthday party, when people give you something and say “This is for you. Happy birthday!”，you also answer, “Thank you."

    When your friend helps you clean the classroom after school, you say “thank you" to him.

    When you hear people say to you "Your English is very good. how do you answer it?
