An officer(军官) is at a bus stop．He wants to take a1to see his girlfriend. He wants to tell her the2of his bus's arrive(到达)，so she can meet3at the stop on time. He wants to4her on a pay phone,5 he doesn't have a coin (硬币) for the phone．He wants someone to6him．

    A soldier(士兵) is near the stop. The omcer7over to the soldier and asks, "Do you have any coins8the phone?"

    "Let me have a look." says the soldier. "I'll see if(是否) I can help you."

    "Don't you know9 to speak to an officer?''says the officer. "Now let's start again．Do you have any coins…?"

    "No, sir."says the soldier10.

    Elephants are big，but Teensy was the smallest of them.Teensy tried everything she could think of to help herself grow.She put her legs out straight.She ate a lot.However，nothing seemed to 1.

    One day Teensy went with the elephants to have lunch.They stopped in front of some trees and found their favourite green leaves.Teensy raised her nose and tried again and again.but  she couldn't 2the branches.Not even the low ones!

    At the end of the day，Teensy was with the rest of the elephants watching the 3.But Teensy couldn't see very much."Excuse me，"said Teensy politely，"I'd like to see more than your knees，if you please."But the elephants didn't hear little Teensy.They were too 4 enjoying the sunset.Teensy sat down and waited 5for them to finish admiring the sunset.She knew she was too little to walk away by herself，so she sat and6 what the sunset must look like."Oh，I guess it is too pretty for words!"she sighed.Teensy was very sad."Oh，woe is me."she said.Suddenly，Teensy heard a tiny voice."What is woe？"the voice said.Teensy looked down and saw a mouse."Woe means 7"said Teensy.She told the mouse about seeing only elephant 8 instead of the sunset.

    "I'm too little，"she said.

    "Why？You're not little at all，"said the mouse.

    "Do you think so？"replied Teensy，"I'm sorry you're so small.I know how it feels.""Don't be sorry，"said the mouse."I like being small!I can always fit into corners.

    "Wow，"said Teensy，"so being9CAN be good."

    "You're right.Little or big，you should always be10 of who you are."said the mouse.

    Last Friday, I was just in France to visit my 96-year-old grandmother who is very dear to me 1lives alone. I don't visit her very often, so every time I go to see her, 2of us think that it might be the3time we see each other. Last time I visited her in December of 2014, I did some video interviews about her life. I asked her 4 it was like to grow up with her father in the 1920s, to live with two young children, with her husband 5 in a prisoner's camp (集中营) in Germany. I also asked her about her greatest 6. I learned a lot of amazing new things about her that I never know before.

    This year, I did not really have questions to ask. I only wanted to tell her how loved she is. So, I cooked for her and read stories. I gave her a foot massage (按摩). 7 leaving, I wanted to leave something 8 behind besides the memory of our time together. So I wrote her five different love and thank notes to let her know how much she means to me. I 9 them in different places where I knew she would 10find them. One of them was under her pillow. 11 one was hanging from the lamp shade by which she reads in the evening. Another one was by her toothbrush. One was in her mailbox which she has to check every day. And the last one was in her car. She still 12to the nearby village a couple of times a week!

    I knew that these cards would surely cheer her up after I left. Really she called me as I was catching my plane back to the US. She said," I found your three cards! By the time I discovered the third, I was laughing out loud! They did me so much good. Thank you so much!" I smiled to myself, 13she still has two more to go! It is Sunday today, so my guess is that she hasn't 14her mailbox or driven her car! I can 15 how happy she will be when she finds them.

    Two years ago, Matthew Nonnemacher's teacher asked her students to think of one wish. Matthew didn't have to think too 1. He drew a picture of himself giving money to a 2 person.

    Drawing a picture is easy, of course. But Matthew did much more than that. He 3 to start to collect pennies (便士)."I think almost everyone has extra (额外的) 4," said Matthew. He knew that if most people liked to give away a penny, the pennies could 5 up. He wished that he could collect $10,000.

Matthew started his work 6. He put penny boxes in schools and supermarkets. He also went on TV to 7 people to give away their pennies. When Matthew finished the work, he collected more than $18,000 in pennies.
