Sam woke up suddenly .Someone was moving around in the next room .“Maybe it's his grandmother ,getting a glass of water ,”he told himself .But the next room was the living room .  It wasn't near the kitchen .  Sam's parents were away ,and there was only his grandmother in the house with him .He looked at his watch .It was three thirty !Too early for his grandmother to get up!

    He got out of bed and opened the door very quietly .The window was open .  A man was standing near it and looking in the dark drawers .His grandmother kept her money there! He thought quickly .Yes ,the radio !He turned it on and a man's voice filled the room .The thief felt scared and jumped onto the window .Then he jumped down two floors to the ground.He gave a shout .

    His grandmother was awake and she called the police right away .The thief couldn't get up ,because his leg was badly hurt .When the policemen came ,they were very happy“Great ,Sam ,”said a policeman .“This man is a famous thief .”

    A rich young man decided that he would like to do some diving(潜水) in the sea, so he bought a diving suit and all the other things that he needed, and took some lessons at a diving school. Then one day he walked into the water by himself and began to explore（探索） the bottom（底部）of the sea. He saw a lot of beautiful fish and other things, and then, after half an hour, he suddenly saw a man waving（摇动）his arms and legs around wildly near the bottom of the sea. He was wearing only a bathing suit. The rich young man was very surprised to see him, so he took out a plastic notebook and a special pencil, which could write under water, and wrote, “What are you doing here?” He showed the notebook to the other man, who then took the pencil and wrote, “Drowning!”（溺水）

    Once upon a time, a hippo(河马) lived in a river next to a big tree.

One day, a bird came and nested(筑巢) in the tree. The songs of the bird filled the hippo with so much envy(羡慕) that he couldn't think of anything else. Every day he would think why he wasn't born to be a bird even though the bird told him many times he was so lucky to be so big and such a good swimmer.

    Finally, the hippo made up his mind that he would come out of the river, climb the tree, and start singing. However, when he tried to climb the tree, it was very clear that the hippo didn't have wings, nor claws to climb with Realizing that he would never climb up the tree, he angrily hit the tree until it came crashing to the ground. Then he stepped onto the leaves of the fallen tree, and began singing.

    Unfortunately, hippos can't sing either. All that came from his mouth were terrible noises, and when the other animals heard this, they all came around to make fun of the hippo.

    He was so ashamed of this. He also felt bad about having knocked the tree over. He used all his strength to raise the tree back up again, and looked after it until it completely recovered(康复).
