Teenager Jake Denham was skiing (滑雪) with his family in the USA when he felt over and lost one oi his skis. His family didn't know that he had a problem. They kept on skiing. When they got to the foot of mountain, there was no sign of Jake.

Jake couldn't find his ski anywhere. In the end, he decided to take off his other ski and walk down the mountain. But he couldn't work out the right way to go.

It was now getting dark and he was a long way from any place of safety. He knew that he might die that night in the cold temperatures. But Jake kept calm. At home, lake watched a lot of TV programmes about living in difficult situations. He remembered the advice from these programmes and knew that he should build a hole in the snow. He made a hole and pointed it up the hill so the wind couldn't blow into it. Outside the temperature fell to a dangerous -15℃ that night, but inside it Jake was safe from the cold.

But he had to get down the mountain. The TV programmes always said. "If you are lost, you should find someone else's tracks (轨迹) through the snow and follow them." "I wanted to live my life." remembers Jake. "So I got up and I found some ski tracks and I followed those." He walked and walked and finally he saw lights. Nine hours after he lost his ski, he found a team of worker who came to save him. He was safe!

His mum was very happy when she heard the news. Amazingly, Jake didn't even have to go to hospital. He got through the terrible experience without any injuries.

So, the next time someone says that watching TV is a waste of time, think of Jake. Sometimes TV can save your life.

Everybody has his own hero in mind and is always trying to copy his behaviors in life. As for me, my 1 is just that man. My grandfather had a small farm. He also worked in a 2.

One autumn, most of the farmers in the village were 3, so he promised to help his neighbor harvest(收割)the corn as he often did. 4, after harvesting his own corn, Grandpa's little corn machine broke. What was 5, the factory where Grandpa worked made the workers have extra work. He had to 6 the farm early and didn't get back until very late. It now seemed 7 to help out his neighbor because he really had no free time.

One night, Grandpa 8 that he wouldn't let his neighbor's harvest rot(腐烂)in the field. Without a 9, he'd harvest it by hand.

“I don't think you'd have time to do it,” said my grandma. “10, it would be too dark to do anything at night.”

“I know of one night that I could do it!” he 11. “There's still one more full moon in October. If the 12 is clear, I think I can do it.”

A few days later, after a long shift(轮班)at the factory, my grandpa went to the 13. The weather was cold but clear. He cut all the corn through the night to 14 his word.

Sometimes, when I want to put off responsibilities, I'd see my grandfather 15 corn in the light of the harvest moon. Behind him, row after row of corn stocks(玉米秸秆)stand at attention in respect for a man who keeps his word.

I am Turere. I come from Kitengela, a farming community on the edge(边缘) of Nairobi National Park of Kenya(肯尼亚). Since the age of nine. I have helped to look after my family's cows. As a child, in my free time. I enjoyed playing with electronics. I made my own inventions, such as electronic toys from car parts and other things. I also built other electronic devices(仪器) for my neighbors.

At the age of 13, I invented something that changed my life. It also changed the lives of many people in my community. One night, a lion from the park came into my family's farm and killed one of our cows. I was angry. However, killing the lion, I thought, was not the best way to solve the problem. Instead, I decided to invent a solution

The first idea I got was to use fire, because I thought lions were scared of fire. But I came to realize that didn't really help, because it was even helping the lions to see through the cowshed (牛棚). So I didn't give up. I continued.

And a second idea I got was to use a scarecrow(稻草人). I was trying to trick the lions into thinking) that I was standing near the cowshed. But lions are very clever. They will come the first day and they see the scarecrow, and they go back. But the second day, they'll come and they say, this thing is not moving here, it is always here! So he jumps in and kills the animals.

So one night, I was walking around the cowshed with a torch(手电筒), and that day the lions didn't come. And I discovered that lions were afraid of a moving light. So I had an idea.
