My father was a restaurant owner. My name is Vincent Lim. I'm a chef and restaurant owner. Running a Chinese restaurant is one of the hardest and most1 things in my life.

When we first arrived in Australia, my dad2 a Chinese restaurant. I would go there on a3 basis to help him out. And slowly I developed my4 for cooking. The hard work that my dad put into Chinese food makes me feel so proud that I am lucky enough to learn from a5

The first dish that I ever learned to cook was the fried rice, which is the easiest but also the 6 one to get right. From years of experience, I can7 you the difference between a good fried rice just from the feel and from the smell, without even taking a bite.

To lots of Chinese immigrants like us, the restaurant isn't just a business. It's a sense of 8 . The wok hei (锅气)9 every ingredient in the wok, producing an appealing smell. The fragrances of the food10 the air and lingered around so much longer. Those memories, they become nostalgic (乡愁). The sense of home is what makes a11 good dish taste.

Defeat Disability

Yang's ambition was to get an architect certificate or become a bowling master.But when he{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(conduct) experiments with a microscope in the basement,a tank on the bench exploded,sending him flying outwards through the exit.In other words,he was disabled.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(feel) clumsy,he was annoyed at first though nobody made fun of him.He cut out going outdoors and just sat{#blank#}3{#/blank#} at home talking to his parrot or tortoise silently.His sister resigned to help him in many ways.Her assistance and encouragement were so{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(benefit) to his psychology {#blank#}5{#/blank#} he adapted to his disability soon and became outgoing again.In a college accessible to him,he studied politics and literature.He always sat in the front row near{#blank#}6{#/blank#} entry without any absence and,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} the help of his handy laptop,he studied well by means of dictation.His thesis (论文),Abolishing Slavery,met with all professors' approval.After class,he and his companions often played drum music,{#blank#}8{#/blank#} was noisy but suitable for his hearing.After graduation,he made high profits by {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(design) software for a firm.

All in all,in his community,he won his dignity and people's congratulations.He always wished all the best to his{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(disable) fellows and encouraged them,"Never mind! All you have is adequate to get your achievement!"

In 2011,a law was born.A kind of ladybug(瓢虫)became the state insect of North Dakota.When the governor 1 the bill into law,four kids stood behind him! 

Jaden,Logan,Megan and Isabel were in first grade 2 their idea for a law was born.Megan and Logan were farm kids and they had been 3 with the ladybug already.They knew that farmers had difficulty in controlling crop-eating pests called aphids and that ladybugs tended to 4 on aphids.The more ladybugs were around,the fewer 5 the farmers had to use.

They decided that this ladybug should be their state insect.This ladybug was of great 6 to the crops on the farm and deserved a place of honor.But they had no idea how to 7 a law.So they asked help from their teacher,who happened to 8 their local state representative.When they all met,he told the kids they would have to present facts and reasons to 9 lawmakers that North Dakota was in need of the ladybug as the state insect.

The students spent much of that first-grade spring 10 ladybugs.There was no doubt that their research was hard work 11 ,they fell in love with it."Even if we hadn't achieved what we wanted," says Jaden,"even if the bill hadn't been passed,I think it was really 12 a lot."

In the fall of their second-grade year,they were invited to speak to a committee.In 13 ,Megan wrote songs for the group to sing,they contacted more experts for support,and they practiced their presentation a lot!They showed up at the state building in ladybug costumes and presented their case.14 ,the bill was passed! 

The students want everyone to know that kids can make a 15 "Whether you are 8 or 80," says Isabel,"you have a voice in your community(社区)."

Heman Bekele was not a typical high school student. 1 . spending his free time playing video games, this 14-year-old was conducting experiments. His goal was to create a 2 . that could treat skin cancer, and make it affordable for everyone who 3 . it.

Growing up in Ethiopia, Africa, Heman 4 . saw people getting sunburned by the hot sun working outside. He didn't 5 much of it when he was really little, but as he 6 . he realized how serious skin cancer really was.

Skin cancer does have cures and it is 7 in most cases. However, the average 8 of skin cancer treatment is almost $40,000. When hearing the shocking 9 , Heman planned to create a more 10 and accessible solution. He started doing experiments and working on different things, which turned into his bar of soap as a project.

His 11 won him the prize in this year's 3M Young Scientis's Challenge, a competition that 12 kids to think of unique ways to solve everyday problems. Heman was so surprised and 13 when he first heard the news of his award. "It's 14 to see that my ideas can be 15 and seen by the science community." he said.

A visually-challenged man from Beijing recently hiked (徒步) 40 days to Xi'an, as a first step {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (journey) the Belt and Road route (路线) by foot. 

On the 1,100 kilometer journey, the man Cao Shengkang, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} lost his eyesight at the age of eight in a car accident, crossed 40 cities and counties in three province. Inspired by the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (hold) in Beijing, Cao decided to cover the route by hiking as a tribute (致敬) to the ancient Silk Road. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} friend of his, Wu Fan, volunteered to be his companion during the trip. 

Cao and Wu also collected garbage along the road, in order to promote environmental {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (protect). Cao believes this will make the hiking trip even more {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (meaning). The two of them collected more than 1,000 plastic bottles along the 40-day journey. 

In the last five years. Cao {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (walk) through 34 countries in six continents, and in 2016, he reached the top of Kilimanjaro, Africa's {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (high) mountain. 

Now, Cao has started the second part of his dream to walk along the Belt and Road route. He flew 4, 700 kilometers {#blank#}9{#/blank#} Xi'an to Kashgar on Sept. 20, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (plan) to hike back to Xi'an in five months.
