Henry Ford was about seven years old when his father died.  His mother found it difficult {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (support) the large family.  However, she tried her best to do so. Also, she{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (send) Henry,the eldest son, to school.

    At one time, Henry needed a grammar book for his study.  His family was so poor that his mother could not afford one.

    One morning, Henry found that a deep snow had fallen, and the cold wind {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(blow). "Ah," he said, "it {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(be) an ill wind that blows nobody good." With these words, he ran to the house of a neighbor, and offered his service to move away the snow around it. The offer{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(accept).

    When he finished the work, he received his pay. Then he went to another place for the same purpose, and then to another, until he{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(earn) enough to buy a grammar book.

    From that time, Henry was always the first in all his classes.  He knew no such word as "fail", and he succeeded in all he tried to do. Having the will, he always found the way.

    Alan was a weak old man who lived alone. One day, he got {#blank#}1{#/blank#} bad cold and called for a doctor.

    When the doctor {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (check) him, he asked," Do you have a friend to look after you?"

    The old man said," I'm seventy {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (year) old, but I've never met anyone I could call a friend. "

    "You {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (live) here since you were born but never had a friend?" The doctor was surprised. "Our village head, Robin, will {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (certain) help you if he knows you are sick. "

    "Right," agreed Alan. "But he's so noisy that I can't stand {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (he) for more than five minutes. "

    "I'm afraid you see so much of your neighbors' weakness that you don't know what good people they actually are." the doctor said. "Anyway, please call me {#blank#}10{#/blank#}you need me." Then he left without a word of" thank you" was heard.

    One day, a great general(将军) {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (ask) his soldiers(士兵), "What is the {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (strong) power(力量)in the world?" Four of the soldiers put up {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (they) hands. They wanted {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (answer) the question.

The general asked the first man {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (speak). The first man was {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (young) than the other three, and he wasn't strong. He said, "My gun is the strongest. It {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (kill) anyone." "Thank you. Next, please" said the general. The second man was very strong. He said, "I don't think so. Soldiers use guns. So, the soldier is the strongest." The third man said, "Soldiers use guns, but our general gives us orders. So, I think our general is the youngest." The fourth man was the oldest of them all. He said, "love {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (be) the strongest. For love, people don't use guns." The general said {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (something). He just took out a medal(勋章)and {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (give) it to the fourth soldier.
