The food stands in the streets of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, open early in the morning and stay busy till late at night, selling fast food to hungry passers-by. The most famous dish is pho, a noodle soup with slices of beef or chicken and different vegetables.     As we know, there are differences between Western culture and Chinese culture. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. Let's look at some words about animals and plants. Most expressions in Chinese about the dog, for example, "a homeless dog", "a mad dog", "a running dog" and "a dog catching a mouse", have bad meanings. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. In English, people use the dog to describe good actions. For example, "you are a lucky dog" means you are a lucky person. And "every dog has its day" means each person has good luck sometimes. To describe a person's serious illness, they say "sick as a dog". The word "dogtired" means very tired.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}. But in Western culture, "cat" is often used to describe a woman who is unkind. There are many other examples of how "cat" is used differently as well.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. People think the rose stands for love, peace, courage and friendship. And the rose is the national flower of England, America and many other countries.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}. We can learn about many differences in cultures by comparing how some words are used.

A. However, Chinese love cats very much

B. The words about plants and animals are used in good or bad ways in different cultures

C. We can see differences when we pay attention to the way words are used

D. However, westerners love cats very much

E. We can see similarities when we pay attention to the way words are used

F. The rose is regarded as a symbol of love in both China and some Western countries

G. But in Western countries, dogs are considered to be honest and good friends of humans

When something is troubling us, it's natural to try and make it go away. We might head to the doctor or make a trip to the local drug store for medicine. Unluckily these methods can be expensive and it takes time.

But have no fear, because you might be able to come up with useful home remedies (治疗方法)with nothing more than a few simple ingredients from your house.

At one time or another, it seems everyone comes down with the flu. Along with taking it easy and getting plenty of rest, you can tur to chicken soup to make you feel better. Mothers from around the world have been making it for thousands of years for sick relatives. The hot soup warms you up and its pleasant smell helps to clear up your nose. It's often prepared with onions, carrots ... which all provide vitamins.

Nothing drives people mad quite like getting the hiccups (打嗝). In some cases, nothing seems to drive them away. Next time you've got a bad case of the hiccups, try this sweet solution. Take a full teaspoon with sugar and swallow it down. The sugar is thought to get your throat muscle (肌肉) to relax. Just don't overdo it, or you might have to take a trip to the dentist.

Headaches are another trouble. If you get one, try putting a pencil in between your teeth. A major cause of headaches is stress, and when we're worried, we often tighten our jaws (咬紧牙关), which pulls a muscle that connects to our head, and this action causes the pain, By placing a pencil in our mouths, we are giving our minds a signal to relax our jaws. This can reduce (减轻) the headaches almost immediately, But just remember not to bite(咬) it hard.

Complete the following passage with the words or phrases in the box. Each one can only be used once:

A. share  B. used to  C. hobbies D. different from E. customs

Do animals have their culture? Recent years social scientists have begun to ask if some animals have their culture too. When we think of culture, we mean a way of life that a group of people have in common. Culture is the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} and beliefs(信仰) that a country or a group has. It is the way of behavior that helps people live together. It is also the way of behavior that makes a group of people {#blank#}2{#/blank#} other groups.

Our culture makes us lose strength, claw(爪子), long teeth, and other defenses(防卫). Instead, we use tools, cooperate with one another, and communicate with language. But this kind of "culture" can also be found in the lives of some animals. We {#blank#}3{#/blank#} think that the ability to use tools was the dividing line(分界线) between human beings and other animals. However, we have found that some animals can not only use tools but also make tools themselves. Animals can also{#blank#}4{#/blank#} knowledge with each other and use their own language to communicate. So it may be important for us to know that the line diving us from animals is not as clear as we used to think.

 左栏是五个人的运动需求,右栏是七则广告,请将它们进行匹配。

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}Dave, 14, thinks nothing is more exciting than playing baseball. He hopes to join a baseball club to improve his skills.
