It is December 25th, 2050. The people in the city are all celebrating Christmas. I'm the mayor of our city. My citizens and I are holding a big party under the sea, though you wouldn't believe it. But please do not feel excited, you should feel sad because we have to live under the sea. Because of the pollution, the earth has been completely destroyed, from top to bottom. The atmosphere has no oxygen and moisture. As a result, the plants are burned by the strong sunlight with a great number of harmful rays. Of course, none of them are still alive. Not only no green, but also the temperature reaches about 121℃ all day even in winter because there is too much CO2 circling the earth.
On the land, there is no life. Luckily, the sea is not destroyed by human. So, we have to move into the sea. At the bottom of the water, people have built many new cities. There is a lot of advanced* equipment in each city. Computers are used to control all the machines, even the people's life. We can also make the seawater into fresh water. There are two machines making oxygen. If they stop working for only one minute, more than 10 million people will die.
The population of our city is over 30 million and, of course, it is quite crowded. We have lots of high buildings and bridges. The roads are wide, too. Our cars are miniature UFOs, don't be surprised, it is true. At the bottom of the sea you can't see anything, because there is no light all day. However, we have advanced lighting equipment so that we can see the "sun"under the sea. Of course, the advanced lighting equipment is very expensive. And if it doesn't work, we can see nothing under the sea. What should we do then?

    The Nobel Prize is named after Alfred Nobel (1833--1896), a Swedish inventor and businessman. During his lifetime, Alfred Nobel contributed to more than 350 inventions and set up 87 companies around the world. When he died, he left the largest part of this fortune, a total of 9 million, to be used to found the Nobel Prize. Now the prizes are given to the people in six areas: peace, literature(文学), physics, chemistry, medicine and economy.

    Winners can be individuals (个人) or organizations. The Red Cross, for example, has won three times. Prizes are sometimes shared between up to three people. Prize winners receive a medal, a certificate (证书) and 10 million Swedish crowns(克郎，货币单位). Generally those who win a Nobel Prize value the honor more than the money they receive.

    The youngest person ever to win a Nobel Prize was just 25 years old. He was Lawrence Bragg, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1915 together with his father. The oldest winner is Leonid. He won the Prize in Economic Sciences in 2007 when he was 90 years old.

    So far, more than ten Chinese people have won dais great prize. The most recent ones are Mo Yan and Tu Youyou.

    The expression "Excuse me" is1 used in the United States than in China. 2 American says "Excuse me" when he wants to pass 3 someone, or leave a party or a dinner, or when' he finds himself late 4 an appointment(约会).

    "Thank you" means that appreciate (感谢) 5 someone has done for you. An American, says "Thank you" all day long. For example, he 6 the sales woman after she has served(服务)him. He will say "Thank you" to the cashier(收款员)when he 7 his food. He will Say "Thank you" to a student if he has, just answered the question. At 8, the husband will thank his wife if she brings him a cup of tea. On the other hand, the wife thanks her husband for helping her 9 her housework. So the American People's idea of 3010 polite is quite different from ours.

    On New Year's Day, many people eat special food for good luck.

In Spain and some Latin American countries (拉丁美洲国家), people eat twelve grapes at midnight on New Year's Eve一One grape for good luck in each month of the new year.

    Chinese people eat dumplings. Some are made with a coin inside. Everyone tries to find the coin for good luck and money in the New Year. Of course they don't eat the coin.

    Japanese people eat noodles on New Year's Eve and on their birthdays. It may bring them good luck and long life.

    England is the biggest of the four countries in the United Kingdom. Together with Scotland and Wales, these three countries make up the island of Great Britain. When you include Northern Ireland (the country in the northeastern part of Ireland) we call it the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK). Over 50 million people live in England. That's around 80 percent of the UK's total population. It is a multicultural (多元文化的) country where more than 250 languages are spoken in the capital city of London. Outside of the big cities, England is a very green country and has many beautiful rural areas, such as the Lake District in the north and the New Forest, a big area of forest in the southern part of the country.

Music

    English people love music. In the summer, there are music festivals all over the country. Glastonbury (格拉斯顿堡) is a five-day festival of music, dance, comedy, theatre and circus (马戏). About 175,000 people go to it each year. 

    People in England listen to all types of music, especially pop and rock. England has produced many international groups and singers like the Beatles, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran and Adele.

Sport

    The most popular sports in England are football, rugby (橄榄球) and cricket (板球). Most towns have at least one field where teams can play. English football teams like Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool are world-famous. Cricket is a traditional sport played with a bat (球拍) and ball. It began in England and is now played all over the world.

Food

    England is a very multicultural country and this has a big influence on the food people eat. Indian, Chinese and Italian cuisines (饭菜) are popular besides traditional English food like fish and chips, roast beef or sausage and mashed potatoes (土豆泥). Many English people drink several cups of tea each day, usually with milk.
