    In much of Asia, especially the so-called"rice bowl" cultures of China, Japan, Korea{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Vietnam, food is usually eaten with chopsticks.

    Chopsticks are usually two long, thin pieces of wood or bamboo. They can also be made of plastic, animal bone or metal. Sometimes chopsticks are quite artistic. Truly elegant chopsticks might{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(make) of gold and silver with Chinese characters. Skilled workers also combine various hardwoods and metal{#blank#}3{#/blank#}create) special designs.

    The Chinese have used chopsticks for five thousand years. People probably cooked their food in large pots{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(use) twigs(树枝) to remove it. Over time,{#blank#}5{#/blank#} the population grew, people began cutting food into small pieces so it would cook more quickly. Food in small pieces could be eaten easily with twigs which {#blank#}6{#/blank#}( gradual) turned into chopsticks.

    Some people think that the great Chinese scholar Confucius{#blank#}7{#/blank#}lived from roughly 551 to 479 B.C. ,influenced the {#blank#}8{#/blank#}develop) of chopsticks. Confucius believed knives would remind people of killings and{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(be) too violent for use at the table.

    Chopsticks are not used everywhere in Asia. In India, for example, most people traditionally eat{#blank#}10{#/blank#} their hands.

    A boy trembled in the cold winter, wrapping his arms wound {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(he) on a bus stop bench.     Antarctica (南极洲), the southernmost part of Earth, is covered {#blank#}1{#/blank#} snow and ice all year round. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} it has amazing views, many are still frightened by this icy desert.

 But 34-year-old US explorer Colin O' Brady is different. Three {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (month) ago, he became the first person {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (cross) Antarctica alone. During the 932-mile journey, O' Brady spent 54 days in extreme conditions. He had to push {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (he) to the limit. He carried everything he'd need on a sled. But even with enough food, O' Brady began to become {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (thin) and weaker after six weeks. "I {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (lose) a ton of weight so far. My legs feel more like the size of my arms at this point," he wrote on US social media Instagram.

    Adding to the pressure, O' Brady was racing against Louis from the UK. The two men set off together, with Rudd {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (take) an early lead. But on Christmas Day, O'Brady decided to make {#blank#}9{#/blank#} final effort without stopping for a rest. Luckily for him he made it, getting to the finish line earlier than Louis.

    O' Brady thinks that he has the spirit of exploration in his blood: He is an athlete, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} loves to move. He also believes we can all have this strength and achieve much.

    The Chinese invented block printing more than 1, 400 years ago. The original characters were carved on wood and ink was then applied. Block printing is time consuming and {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (cost) a lot of manpower and materials. Misprinted characters cannot be {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (easy) corrected. These shortcomings were only overcome after the appearance of movable type printing, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} greatly improved the speed and quality of printing.

    Bi Sheng of the Northern Song Dynasty invented the movable type printing. He carved the Chinese characters on small {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (cube) of sticky clay. He baked them in the fire until they became hard and movable. In the course of presswork, the movable characters were placed into {#blank#}5{#/blank#}, iron frame until it was full. He then took a smooth board and pressed it over the surface so that the block of type became even: Then ink was applied and it was ready {#blank#}6{#/blank#} printing. To be more {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (efficiency), he prepared two iron boards. When one was being used for printing, the other could be used {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (put) characters in order for the next page. The two boards were used alternately.

    Although what Bi Sheng invented was simple when {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (compare) to today's letterpress printing; it already bad the main traits of modem printing. So Bi Sheng's {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (contribute) to printing cannot be overstated.
