Last Friday, my friend David called me and invited me and our friend Tom to a party in his university. Tom and I are in{#blank#}1{#/blank#} same class. We both wanted to go to the party, but there was a problem—we'd have a final exam on the {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (come) Monday.

    “Don't worry. We can come back on Sunday and won't miss the exam,” really{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (want) to go to the party, Tom said. So I decided to go{#blank#}4{#/blank#} him.

      The party was great and we{#blank#}5{#/blank#}  (true) enjoyed ourselves there. However, we stayed up late on Saturday night and slept all day on Sunday and didn't make it back to our university until Monday morning. We missed the exam. Then we went to our professor's office and explained{#blank#}6{#/blank#} we missed the exam. We lied that there was a flat tire（车胎漏气）on our way back to the university. Our professor {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (agree) that we could take the exam the following day.

    When it was time to take the exam, Tom and I{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (take )to different rooms. After we opened the test paper, we saw only one question, “Which tire?”

    Neither Tom nor I answered the question. Instead we told our professor the truth. Luckily, he later gave{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (we) the real test paper . And both Tom and I made a{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (decide): never to lie again.

    One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried loudly {#blank#}1{#/blank#}hours and the farmer tried to figure out {#blank#}2{#/blank#} to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(cover) up anyway; it just wasn't worth the effort to get the donkey back.

    He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel（铲）and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(cry) horribly. Then, to everyone's {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(amaze), he quieted down. A few shovel loads {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(late), the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(hit) his back, the donkey was doing something surprising. He would shake {#blank#}8{#/blank#} off and take a step up.

    As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would do the same. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over {#blank#}9{#/blank#} edge of the well and {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(happy) ran off!

    Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

    An American skydiver has survived a 7, 600-meter jump from an airplane, although he did not use a parachute(降落伞). Luke Aikins dropped into a huge safety net on Saturday after falling for about two minutes over the desert in California. Aikins reached a speed of 193 kilometers per hour during the jump. He fell safe into a net. Cranes(起重机) {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (hold) the net about 65 meters over the desert floor. The 42-year-old husband and father has jumped out of planes thousands of times, but never once  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}he left a plane without a parachute. Aikins said he was nervous before this jump. “We're talking about jumping without a parachute,” he told reporters. "I take that very  {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(serious). It's not a joke.” Aikins prepared for two years  {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(make) the jump. Three skydivers with parachutes made the jump with him. They recorded the event with a video and carried the  {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (equip) that Aikins needed, like an oxygen mask. Aikins rolled in the air just moments before he hit the net so as to land on his back. The sky-diver did not move for several seconds as the net was lowered to the ground. Then, Aikins stood, waved his arms and hugged his wife.

    When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be very difficult to let go of your anger {#blank#}1{#/blank#}forgiveness is possible-and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your and mental health, So far research has shown that people who forgive can have more energy and {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(good)sleep.

    So when someone has hurt you cool down first. Take a couple of {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (breath)and think of something that {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(give)you pleasure; a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love. Don't wait for {#blank#}5{#/blank#}apology. “Many times the person who hurts you may never think of {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(apologize),"says Dr. Fredric Luskin,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} wrote the book Forgive for Good. "They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don't see things the same way. So if you wait for people{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(say)sorry, you could be waiting a very long time." Next keep in mind that forgiveness does not {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(necessary)mean accepting the action of the person who upsets you. Instead, learn to look for the love,{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(beautiful)and kindness around you. Finally, try to see things from the other person's position. You may realize that he or she was acting out of carelessness.

    "Carnival" comes from tow Latin words, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(mean) "No more meat". In Europe, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} it began, people saw carnival as the last chance to have fun at the end of the winter season. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(have) fun meant eating, drinking and dressing up. The most famous carnival was in Venice. At first, it lasted for just one day. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}time passed, the carnival period was extended. People walked around the street wearing masks, doing {#blank#}5{#/blank#}they wanted without {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(recognize).

    Later, wearing masks was limited by law. Finally, at the end of the 18th century, masks {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(ban) completely. But in {#blank#}8{#/blank#}late 1970s, the tradition was revived by students and the festival was developed for tourists. Today, carnival in Venice is celebrated for five days in February. Hotels are {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(full) booked and the narrow streets are crowded {#blank#}10{#/blank#}wonderful costumes. If the key to Rio is music and movement, then in Venice it is the mystery of masks.
