Is there such a thing as being “over-protective”?

    I can honestly say that my answer{#blank#}1{#/blank#}that question has changed dramatically（戏剧性地）since I became a parent.

    Before the birth of my daughter,I taught at a private school,often{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(view) my students as over-protected, worrying{#blank#}3{#/blank#}would happen to them when they went on to middle schools.

    Some did fine,and some did not.Some needed constant pats on the back,words of encouragement and extra support,which I{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(happy) gave.Others{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(satisfy) with themselves,needing little or no interaction（互动）with their teacher.{#blank#}6{#/blank#}for the most part,graduates would go on for higher schooling.

    I'd always taken it for granted{#blank#}7{#/blank#}their parents were over-protective,for they were the ones that still walked their{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(five) graders into the classroom and met them at the school gate.

    Admittedly,I laughed at those parents,thinking their children would never learn to be{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(dependent) if they didn't let go just a little.Then I had my own daughter. The moment I looked at her little face,I knew I'd do everything in my power{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(protect) her and make sure she always felt safe!

    There has been a recent trend in the food service industry toward lower fat content and less salt. This trend, which was started by the medical community(医学界){#blank#}1{#/blank#}a method of fighting heart disease, has had some unintended side{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(effect) such as overweight and heart disease—the very thing the medical community was trying to fight.

    Fat and salt are very important parts of a diet. They are required{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(process) the food that we eat, to recover from injury and for several other bodily functions. When fat and salt{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(remove) from food, the food tastes as if is missing something. As{#blank#}5{#/blank#}result, people will eat more food to try to make up for that something missing. Even{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(bad), the amount of fast food that people eat goes up. Fast food{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(be) full of fat and salt; by{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(eat) more fast food people will get more salt and fat than they need in their diet.

    Having enough fat and salt in your meals will reduce the urge to snack(吃点心) between meals and will improve the taste of your food. However, be{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(care) not to go to extremes. Like anything, it is possible to have too much of both,{#blank#}10{#/blank#}is not good for the health.

    In the past black people in South Africa {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(live) a miserable life. They could not vote to choose their {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(leader). They could not get jobs they wanted. The parts of town in which they had to live {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (decide) by white people. They lived in the {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(poor) areas in the country and could not get jobs they wanted. Nelson Mandela, a modern hero, called black people {#blank#}5{#/blank#} fight against white people to make black and white people equal. He said “We were put in a position {#blank#}6{#/blank#}we had either to accept we were less important,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} fight the Government. We chose to attack the law. We first broke the law{#blank#}8{#/blank#}a way which was {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(peace); when this was not allowed…only then {#blank#}10{#/blank#}we decide to answer violence with violence.”

    How should you behave when you meet someone {#blank#}1{#/blank#}the first time? An American shakes your hand {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (firm) while looking you straight in the eye. In many parts of Asia, there is no physical contact at all. In Japan, you should bow, and the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (much) respect you want to show, the deeper you should bow. In Thailand, people greet each other by pressing both hands together at the chest. In both countries, eye contact {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(avoid) as a sign of respect.

    In Spain, lunch is often {#blank#}5{#/blank#}biggest meal of the day, and can last two or three hours. For this reason, many people eat a light breakfast and a late dinner. In Mexico, lunch is a time {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (relax), and many people prefer not to discuss business as they eat. In Britain, it's not unusual to have a business meeting over breakfast.

    In most countries, an exchange of business cards{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (be)necessary for all introductions. You should include your company name and your position. If you are going to a country {#blank#}8{#/blank#} your language is not widely spoken, you can get the back side of your card {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (print) in the local language. In a word, when {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (travel) abroad, we should follow local habits.

    A boy was born three months after the death of his father. When he was three years old, his mother married again and {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(leave) him in the care of his grandmother. He faced challenges everywhere, from{#blank#}8{#/blank#} he learnt to think deeply all by himself!

    He made a{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (success) description of why apples fall down from trees to the ground. Later he became {#blank#}10{#/blank#}famous scientist worldwide. Yes, we are talking about Sir Isaac Newton.
