Americans are proud of their variety and individuality, yet they love and respect few things more than a uniform, whether it is the uniform of {#blank#}1{#/blank#} elevator operator or the uniform of a five-star general. Why are uniforms so popular there?

    Among the arguments for uniforms is that most uniforms look more {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (profession) than civilian (百姓的) clothes. People expect superior quality from a man {#blank#}3{#/blank#} wears a uniform. The television repairman wearing a uniform tends {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (inspire) more trust. Faith {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the skill of a garage worker is increased by a uniform. Uniforms also have many practical {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (benefit). They save on other clothes and laundry bills. They are  often {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (comfortable) than civilian clothes. Among the arguments against uniforms {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (be) their lack of variety and the loss of individuality. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} there are many types of uniforms, the wearer of any particular typeis generally stuck with it, without change. When people look alike, they will think, speak, and act {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (similar).

    A toy animal might not matter much to the average person, but for a child, it could mean the world. When 10-year-old Leon Ashworth's mom couldn't afford {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(buy) him a toy panda he badly wanted, he wrote a{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(pity)note on the toy's box begging{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(shopper) not to buy it until his mom could. What happened next {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(be)so heartwarming, it would melt you.

    The boy, Leon Ashworth {#blank#}5{#/blank#}lives in Liverpool, England with his mom, first saw his beloved 'Panda' at an Asda supermarket, the British equivalent of Wal-Mart. Though he was willing to wait with{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(patient) until his mom {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(pay) on June 15th to take the lovely panda home, the store's staff decided to do something extremely thoughtful after they noticed Leon's scribbled letter. They decided to buy it for him.

    In search {#blank#}8{#/blank#} the young author, whom they didn't know at the time, they posted the note on Facebook and eventually attracted the attention of Debbie Ashworth, who{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (immediate) recognized her son's handwriting. The Asda crew invited the mom and her son back to the store, and had a wonderful surprise waiting for them. “This is{#blank#}10{#/blank#}best day of my life.” Leon remarked to his mom.

    In our daily life, we often meet with difficulties. Some people do nothing but wait, while others try hard to conquer{#blank#}1{#/blank#}. Personally, we should face with difficulties positively and make every effort to overcome them.

    My memory drew me back to five years ago when I was{#blank#}2{#/blank#}middle school student. At that time, I had great trouble studying English. First of all, I felt it hard to memorize English{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(word). Besides I didn't dare to say anything in class when{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(ask) questions. What annoyed me most was that I failed exams{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(constant). I was about to give up{#blank#}6{#/blank#}my English teacher found my problems. He encouraged me and gave me some good advice. So{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(inspire) by him, I decided to settle my problems. {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(follow) his advice, I made progress gradually.     The Great Wall was listed as a World Heritage by UNESCO in 1987. Just like a dragon, it winds up and down across deserts, grasslands and mountains,{#blank#}1{#/blank#}( run) approximately 21,196 kilometers from east to west.

Since then, the Great Wall{#blank#}5{#/blank#}( serve) as a monument of the Chinese nation throughout history.

    With {#blank#}6{#/blank#}history of about 2,700 years, some parts of the Great Wall are now {#blank#}7{#/blank#}ruins or have disappeared. However, the Great Wall of China is still one of the most appealing{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(attraction) all around the world owing to its historical significance. The best-known part of the Great Wall of China, Badaling, {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(locate) 43 miles northwest of Beijing, attracts thousands of national and foreign tourists every day.

    Today, the Great Wall{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(recognize) as one of the most important impressive architectural achievements in history.

    My interest in Chinese food started years ago, when I was a young reporter for the Washington Post. Our office wasn't far from Chinatown,{#blank#}1{#/blank#}I found some very good Chinese restaurants.

    That was the first time that I{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(notice) the fresh taste of the meat and vegetables of Chinese food.

    When I learned more about the food, I began to understand why{#blank#}3{#/blank#}has this special feature.

    Many years ago, china had{#blank#}4{#/blank#}energy crisis because it lost much of its wood due to over population and poor management of its forests. This{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(lose) was very bad for the country, of course, but it turned out to be very good for the food. Wood became very expensive and hard to get, so the Chinese had to either find a substitute for their{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(value) wood, or learn how to use it better. There weren't any substitutes so people found ways to economize.

    In order to economize in cooking, they had to use very little wood. So they started cutting their meat and vegetables{#blank#}7{#/blank#}small pieces before they put them in the hot oil. That way, the food cooked{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(fast) and they saved more fuel. The food{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(prepare) in this way kept its fresh flavor and it's this flavor{#blank#}10{#/blank#}attracts people from other countries to the art of Chinese cooking.
