One day, I was cooking with my friend Sandy in the kitchen. Suddenly, Sandy cut her finger. I went to her quickly. But to my surprise, I saw computer chips in her finger.

   “Now you know my secret, you have to die!” Sandy said and picked up the knife. “No, please, Sandy. Aren't we good friends?” I shouted. But before Sandy could say anything, she fainted.

    “Oh, Sandy!” I took her to hospital in a hurry. After a doctor checked her, he said, “I'm afraid we can't help her. Why don't you take her to a robot centre?”

      I hurried to a robot centre. A few days later, Sandy was well. She asked, ”Mary, why did you save me even after I tried to kill you? ”

“Because I'm sure you are my friend. Can you tell me where you are from?” “I'm from another planet. It's far from here. Thank you, my friend Now I see how friendly people are on the earth.”

      Two days later, a UFO came and picked her up. Since then I've never seen her.

    There was once a man who couldn't sleep well because he was afraid that there was a stranger under his bed. He thought that as soon as he went to sleep, the stranger would come out from the bed and rob him. He was worried that the stranger might even kill him!

    Every night, after he got into bed, the man had to get up again and looked under the bed. There was never anyone there, but as soon as he got back into bed, he had to get up and looked under the bed again. This went on for hours until at last he fell asleep from exhaustion.

    The time came for the man to get married. He didn't tell his wife about his fears but she soon found out because he kept her awake all night.

  “You must go to see a doctor,” she told him. “He will make you become well. You won't have such silly fear again.”

    The man did as his wife told him. He told the doctor his problem, and the doctor said, “You can be well again, but it will take about two years. You must come and see me three times a week. The cost for each visit will be $75.”

    The next day the man called the doctor and said, “I won't need to visit you again. I'm well now.”

    The doctor was surprised. “How?” he asked. “Who made you get well?”

  “My wife did,” the man said. “When I told her how much I would have to pay you, she cut the legs off the bed.”

    Keesh lived at the North Pole a long time ago. He was a bright thirteen-year-old boy with a strong, healthy body. His father was a brave man who had died during a food shortage. His father tried to save the lives of his people by fighting a giant polar bear. The meat from the bear kept the people from hunger.

    Keesh was his only son, and he lived alone with his mother. But people soon forgot how Keesh's father had saved their lives. They were forced to live in the poorest house in the village.

    One night there was a meeting in the chief's large house. At that meeting, Keesh showed how much courage he had. He rose to his feet and went on steadily, “Because my father, Bok, brought home more meat than any other hunter, everyone received a fair share, but now my mother and I were given meat filled with bones.” The hunters were shocked to hear a child speak to them that way.

    Keesh waited calmly until the shouting died down. “My mother has no one except me, and therefore I must speak. My father put his life in danger and died, to offer food to this village. It is only right that I, his son and his wife should have enough good meat as long as there is plenty of good meat in this village. I, Keesh, the son of Bok, have spoken.” He sat down. They threatened to punish him by not giving him any food at all. Keesh's eyes flashed(闪烁) and the blood pounded(冲击) under his skin, he jumped to his feet.

    “Listen to me, you men!” he shouted. “I shall never speak in this meeting again—not until you come to invite me to speak. My father was a great hunter, and so will I be.”

    They laughed and shouted at Keesh. But Keesh said nothing more. He walked away with his head raised, looking neither to the left nor the right……
