Here is a story told an American general (将军) who was a very important figure in the American army during the First World War. Everybody in the Untied States knew him and many people wished to have a picture or something of his in their homes. Soon after the war the general returned to Washington. One day he went to a dentist (牙医) and had six teeth pulled out. A week later the general heard that his teeth were being sold in curiosity shops (古玩店) at $5 each. On each of the teeth there was a label (标签) with the name of the general and words, “Buy these teeth and show them to your friends at home.” The general got angry. He rushed to his office and ordered six officers to go around the city and buy all his teeth. The officers went out and visited every curiosity shop in the capital. They were away from the office all day. In the evening they returned and put on the table in front of the general the teeth they had bought. They had collected 175 teeth.

Hi, my name is Robert. Last summer I had a great vacation. I went on a trip with my parents by1 for two weeks. During（在…期间）the first week, we drove for four to six hours a day,2 we never felt tired. At night we stayed in big hotels. Many hotels had swimming pools. I was very happy to3 there. There were many people in the hotels and the rooms there were4 , so we often had to sleep in one room to save some money.

I did not pass the boys' basketball tryouts (预选赛) in seventh grade. Making the team was very important to me, but my name was not on the list. On the way home, I was both angry and sad."I can't believe I didn't make the team,"I said loudly." How did Alex make the team? He can't catch up with a tortoise(乌龟)! Why is Jimmy a better choice than me? He just stands around moving his arms!"" Adam!" my mom said, cutting me off." Why don't you just stop and think? Maybe you need a little more practice."

 Suddenly(突然地),I knew she was right. It was nobody's fault(错误) but my own. I decided to work hard for the team over the next year. I practiced hard every day and had lessons every week. When summer came, I joined lots of basketball camps. Through camp after camp, my abilities(能力) grew, and I knew I was ready for tryouts in the fall.

 The day finally came. As everyone crowded around the lists, I played it cool and waited for my chance to read the names. I slowly looked down the list. Not only did I make it on the list, but my name was the very first!
