One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried loudly {#blank#}1{#/blank#}hours and the farmer tried to figure out {#blank#}2{#/blank#} to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(cover) up anyway; it just wasn't worth the effort to get the donkey back.

    He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel（铲）and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(cry) horribly. Then, to everyone's {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(amaze), he quieted down. A few shovel loads {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(late), the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(hit) his back, the donkey was doing something surprising. He would shake {#blank#}8{#/blank#} off and take a step up.

    As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would do the same. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over {#blank#}9{#/blank#} edge of the well and {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(happy) ran off!

    Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

    Yu Rong, a Chinese artist, thinks of a new way to introduce{#blank#}1{#/blank#}ancient story of Hua Mulan in her picture book. In the book, I Am Hua Mulan, she tells the story by{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(combine) paper-cutting with international artistic styles. She places Shaanxi paper-cuts over Western-style pencil sketches(素描){#blank#}3{#/blank#} (create) a typical presentation of Chinese elements (元素), which turns out to be a{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(success) and impressive breakthrough.

    Hua Mulan{#blank#}5{#/blank#}story has been told by generations in China, is a fighter from the Northern Wei Dynasty(386-534). As a devoted daughter, she dressed herself as a man to serve in the army{#blank#}6{#/blank#}place of her father. Mulan's characteristics, such as courage, kindness and a disinterested attitude toward fame and fortune, made{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(she) one of the most respected historical Chinese heroines. Mulan's story has been adapted {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(frequent) in modern media, including TV shows, video games and literature. For example, in 1998, Disney produced a film named Mulan, which{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(consider) a great success by critics and the public.

    To better tell the story, Yu Rong takes inspiration from her several{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(visit) to sites of ancient battles and Henan Province's Yuju Opera. After years of preparation, she finally makes this extraordinary work.

    I was on my way home with a friend yesterday {#blank#}1{#/blank#} I found a mobile phone by the roadside. After picking it up, I suggested that we go to the house in front of which we found the mobile phone. And we did so. I {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (knock) at the door and two young men answered. Neither of them had lost {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(they) phones, but as I referred to some names on the contact list(通讯录), one of them said he also had those {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(name) and that it must be the phone of one {#blank#}5{#/blank#}their friends. Sometimes, helping others is just doing the right thing.

    Shadow play has a long history and is {#blank#}1{#/blank#} unique kind of art form. It is performed {#blank#}2{#/blank#} sending shadows of puppets (木偶) on a piece of white cloth. The puppets made of leather (皮革) {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (paint) in very bright colours, so that the shadows they make are very {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (colour).

    The players stand behind the cloth and move the puppets against strong light when {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (show) a shadow play, and the shadows of the puppets fall on the cloth. At the same time, the players talk or sing, telling a story with {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (music) playing the drums and other instruments, such as erhu, sanxian, sheng, etc. People on the other side of the cloth can see the shadows of the puppets do all kinds of movements. It's just like the movie today.

    Shadow play started in the Han dynasty. {#blank#}7{#/blank#} is said that Emperor Wu of Han was sad and didn't want to do anything because one of his favourite wives died. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (cheer) him up, his officer made a puppet like the emperor's dead wife with leather. He moved it and made it {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (act) behind a piece of cloth. The emperor enjoyed it very much. After that, shadow play became {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (popular) known in China.
