Ben was twelve years old. He was {#blank#}1{#/blank#} very clever boy, but he was very lazy. He didn't like doing his homework. He said it was boring. He preferred {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (watch) TV or playing computer games. When he did his homework, he often made a lot of {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (mistake) because he didn't pay attention to what he was writing.

    One day, his language teacher was very {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (surprise) when he read Ben's composition about what he had done during the Christmas holiday. There weren't any mistakes in the composition, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} was very unusual. Ben's teacher was really satisfied, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} he wondered how Ben had managed to do such a perfect job. He called Ben to his desk and asked him if he had written his composition by himself. Ben replied that nobody had helped him this time. Then his teacher wanted to know who usually helped him {#blank#}7{#/blank#} his homework.

    When he asked Ben, Ben replied that his {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (old) sister usually did but she didn't do it the night before because she was in the hospital. A friend of {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (she) had an accident and she spent the whole night with her.

    Of course, Ben's teacher advised him not {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (ask) his sister to help him do his homework any more.

    My school is called Whitgift. It is a school {#blank#}1{#/blank#} boys. About 1, 200 boys study here.

    School {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (begin) at 8: 25 a.m. At the beginning of each day, the class meets. During this {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (time), we tell each other {#blank#}4{#/blank#} important school events.

    We have six {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (class) a day and each one lasts (持续) for 45 minutes. They are {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (real) fun but what I like best is lunchtime.

    Lunchtime lasts for nearly two hours (45 minutes for eating and 1 hour for clubs). So we have plenty {#blank#}7{#/blank#} time to go to clubs and societies (社团).

    The most popular clubs {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (be) the table tennis club and the classics society. At the classics society, we watch many {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (film). But my favourite club is the design and technology club. We are now {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (design) a sun-powered (太阳能的) car for a competition

    Peter was the best table tennis player in his school and hardly ever lost a match. He hated losing anything. When he {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (win), he would feel really good. If he lost, he would feel terrible. It seemed to Peter that losing was {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (bad) thing in the world.

    A new kid, Albert, came to Peter's school. He was good at table tennis, too. Soon there would be a match {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Peter and Albert. Peter worked hard {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (get) ready for the match, but Albert didn't seem to think much of {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. When the match began, Albert was a real player. There was always a smile on his face while Peter looked serious all the time. Peter thought it was {#blank#}6{#/blank#} important to win the match that he even wanted to cheat(舞弊), but he lost in the end. "You played very well, Peter. I wonder {#blank#}7{#/blank#} we can play again sometime," said Albert.

    But Peter didn't feel happy and couldn't fall asleep that night.

    One day, Peter saw Albert playing basketball. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} he lost again and again, the happy smile never left his face. Peter found Albert was great at table tennis but bad at basketball. However, he enjoyed {#blank#}9{#/blank#} of them. Whether he won or lost the game, Albert enjoyed it. Peter came to realize that {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (enjoy) a game was much more important than winning or losing it. He felt happier than ever before.
